Would you ride in the snow?

Just seen the first sign on snow this morning… and I’m contemplating whether to ride to uni today??

have you every fallen off would be my question?

if the answer is no, use your imagination…

Yes I’ve fallen off… in the rain… went sliding down a country road…

Depends on the severity but yes, I have ridden intentionally in the snow.

as above- have also riden in the snow but obviously depends on severity.

if the roads are cleared then there is no reason not too…

Any advice on braking? non abs bike

dont! :stuck_out_tongue:

only what logic dictates: increase following distance to give you time to react and be gentle also i use a lot of rear break

Brake as if the surface is less adhesive, a la rain or dusty road. Brake more progressively and use more back brake and little less front. And smooooooth. Oh and dont try to get your knee down.

Sometimes you don’t have a choice - snow just falls & you have to put up with it.

I have not voted becasue as with others, it dpends on whether it is settling or likely to settle. However, I have known it settle on the visor even when it isn’t settling on the road.

Did it through last years, was very amusing until you get it wrong!

I had to “put the bike down very slowly” at about 3mph afew times

Due to riding like a numpty, luckily there’s no damage when it falls on 1ft of snow lol

Just be careful of the ice and that mushy snow, that’s when your tyres give up

No… did it once, applied front brake without thinking, dropped my bike… last time I tried that one!

Yeah - I’ve ridden in the snow - it also depends on what you are riding - you don’t want something big powerful and heavy with easily damaged fairings in these conditions - something small and light (so you can pick it up easily) is ideal.

I’ve got to do it this evening!

It’s snowing really hard here in south-west London, but I’ve got no other option if I want to get home tonight.

It’ll be interesting, I’m sure…

just as always its not you but others around you,it might vert well be their first time driving in snow.i hope it sets so i can get some rally practice in ma focus (dirty word)

yea done it last year after getting caught out at the ace, no big deals just ride in a high gear low rev’s try to brake rolling off power and slow and progressive on the brakes and no ragging it basically

snow: yes. ice: no.

+1
Thats what happened last year…rode in the snow no worries easy on the scoot going along steady, but i came off on ice which hurts:w00t:

I would also add that it depends what bike I have to ride. Now, a 2009 versys…no chance. Last year I rode in it was a bandit 1200, only worth £1200. But it had very bad fuelling so wouldn’t do a thing, like it was running on 3 cylinders and starving of fuel until you hit 4000 revs and then, if you’ve ridden a 1200 before, all the power came on suddenly. Sounds like fun but it really, really wasn’t. :frowning:

One word NO ! only as a total last resort and even then i think i would rather push my bike home than ride it. This morning was no snow just icy and i saw a guy slide a 09 r1 on a roundabout he advisedly thought it would be a good idea to ride in these conditions. Be safe and keep your bike shiny side up
