Why the f*ck are Ducati's so expensive?

Like it or not, everyone talks about Ducati… I mean look at this post, how come?
Come on guys, let’s face the truth:
Ducatis are just the most awesome bikes in the world!!!
:P:P:P

I’ve been promising myself one for years, and I will own one… Just not right now :crying:

Boooom

Boom

+1

Thats such a great pic PJ!!!

buying a new bike soon and was looking at the 1098 but they only have single seat so my girl said no lol

beautiful bikes so u pay for the design and the high power v twin

Good point, well made SeanR1:D

I wonder if, in the 1930’s people riding BSAs thought Lawrence of Arabia was a **** when he turned up on his Brough Superior SS100 ???

…or in the 1950’s if Ton-Up boys on Triumph Tiger T110s thought you were a **** if you rode up on a Vincent?

Basically the old saying stands true -

“Do not compare your bike to others or you will end up either vain or bitter…There will always be people with better or worse bikes than yours”

:stuck_out_tongue:

Oh go on then !

Boom

Ok not mine but the 1098R I always wanted

Nice Are they Track Day fairings?

Nope , display purposes only !

Will you lot bugger off with all those pics…getting me well jealous! :stuck_out_tongue:

The original point I was trying to make - was why the big difference in price between a Ducati and other bikes. Is it justified? You can get a BMW GS1200 for a fair bit less than 17k. How come the Multistrada (which isn’t widely regarded as best in class) costs so much more than a KTM touring thingy - which is.

Is it just the brand? - Exchange rates? Is it a better bike? Is there a shortage? Are the other manufacturers losing money? Have got no idea - just wondered why?

I guess its what you like …I could have afforded a Ducati when I was buying the blade…but I just preferred the fireblade. Also for me it was value for money and everyone has their own internal way of working that out…I personally thought the Blade ticked all the boxes and it was better value for money.

Regarding the price …Ducati probably are priced at the price they need to be. There is no way they can compete with the big four.

Ducati sales 2011 …42,200

Honda 474,000

Honda factories are some of the most advanced in the world with the power to tell suppliers what price they will pay, Ducati are a niche manufacturer and will allways be more expensive.

There is yet to be a test with a direct comparison with the Multi and either the BMW or the KTM, on paper there doesn’t seem to be much in it spec wise, although the KTM loses out slightly there, all are covered in decent kit and all are great bikes. it does seem hard to justify an extra 4 grand ish for the Multi, but those I know that have them have nothing bad to say about them, one, a recent convert from the old 1200 GS, did say that he would never go back and the multi was the best bike he had ever ridden, so go figure, he reckoned that you got what you paid for.

I think you pay for the R&D that Ducati do, not all their bikes are class leaders but are very close and they all have a certain appeal, and they haven’t made many bad ones, or even many mediocre ones, and most of them are seriously good looking bikes, which in biking, being as emotive as it is, counts for a lot!

The other thing that seems clear, as Sean pointed out is that they don’t compromise for price, if Ohlins and Brembo’s are the best kit then it gets it, no options, just the best bike that they can produce, and that costs money, simples.

Personally, when I can afford one, I’ll buy one, and I don’t care what anyone thinks about it, if anyone thinks I’m a posing **** for riding one then they can **** off.

Seeing as we’re doing pictures…

i think this sums it up

Im at the lights at Euston 2 day of owner the 1098, i look across and a girl smoking blows a kiss at me… yes ugly me - but you wont get that on your blade. I i love my fireblade i really do, but its missing the whole drama that is the Duc.

I can tell you now, the Ducati is harder to ride, less comfy but makes me giggle like a child. If you think it sounds good a the lights, wait till it hits 4.5 grand to about 8 i swear it sounds like the fucking devil screaming!! Epic!

I stand corrected, shame I’m getting no sound from the video as I’m intrigued, doesn’t surprise me that they think its better, goes with what everyone I know with one has said.
