Who has the fastest road legal bike on here?

Quote: Its all fairly unimportant especially if you are a wobbler on a Busa etc with big chicken strips. Bikes fast, the rider pants. Top speed runs are just pissing contests IMO. As the saying goes, its no…

To be frank I do not give a fo%^k if ya got strips the size of a runway at Heathrow ya out there hav’in some fun on two wheel’s

The fastest road legal bike will only be sorted not by dyno run’s or rider’s but by ONE rider an indipendant bod riding all the bikes entered over a set course that way it takes away rider skill and etc, etc.

So come on folks the thread was a bit of fun please keep it that way

Yep … spot on there Mike!!

We need our very own version of top gears stig!

So come on guys…details and spec of the fastest road legal bike on here. 5 pages further and the question still hasn’t been answered.

Well we wont know until we set up the start and finish lines as mentioned at beginning that i said sounds good fun !! (says she …throwing it back to gixxergooner!!! ha ha)

is there not a drag strip/airfield around here that does run wot you brung type days, I know its still down to the rider. but isn’t that the whole part of the package? there is a skill required to transmit a bikes usable power.

I wouldn’t myself, as I like the Ducati clutch the way it is, ie in one peice plus I dont want to embarrass myself

I doubt my bike is the fastest, but I have run it at Woodbridge (ex-RAF airfield in Suffolk with a 2.2 mile long runway) …

She’s de-restricted, running a full Yoshi Tri-Oval system, K&N filters and a custom mapped Power Commander … making 170BHP at the rear wheel and 94ft/lbs of torque, with over 75 ft/lbs across most of the rev range. More power can be had from a class 2 12R I’m sure, but mine has been set up for rideability, not “lethalness”!! That all amounts to a class 2 bike. The classes measure how close or far away a bike is from standard, class 1 being a bog standard bike (de-restrictor is allowed) and class 5 ultra stupid fast (turbos etc).

If you believe the speedo, the bike did well over 200MPH, but in reality I did 187.4MPH through the timing lights. Now 187.4mph?? I hear you saying. Ain’t ZX12Rs supposed to be faster than that? … like 200MPH!! Well, I reckon with a couple more runs, I could have got to 190mph, as I was getting faster every run (did 5) but to hit 200 real miles per hour, I reckon I’m gonna need to change my rear sprocket and drop a couple of teeth … well, it’ll be fun trying and now I’ve been bitten by the bug, so I’ll give it a go next time.

Anyhow, it was my first time doing this stuff and I was faster than all the class 1 and class 2 Busas, so a good result for me. In fact this weekend was dominated by Kawasakis, unlike last time I went (just to spectate), when it was the other way round. There were about three or four ZZR1400s running too … they did well and broke records for a class 1 … as standard, seeming to confirm that the 14 is the fastest production bike yet.

Here she is ready to run at Woodbridge. There’s no mirrors and a few things are taped up, and you can just about make out a white square on the top of the tail … it says number 278. Other than that, she’s the same bike I ride all the time.

This Busa is turbo’d and achieved 240.1MPH at Woodbridge, but has since done 265MPH at Elvington. Its owned and run by “The Flying Dutchman” (real name Frank) …

SP - thanks for that mate. Precisely what I was looking for. A mate of mine achieved 206mph at Woodbridge however it was in a shonky Sierra saphire cosworth that ran the best part of 700bhp+ so achieving what you did on a bike is good going mate. Once you hit a ‘genuine’ 170mph+’ it is amazing how much ground you are covering and before you know it your almost ot of space to break! You have my respect dude!

AFAIK Frank’s bike isn’t road legal is it and besides that doesnt count as he’s not on this site but saying that I’ve come across it before at Elvingdon and boy is that a work of art! Would love to see a video of it or even better in real life!

Cheers - Sunny.

Blimey SP, when did you do this? You didn’t tell us mate! Would love to have seen words & pictures.

Is this where PB magazine ran their Project 250 and did 260mph? Crazy stuff. Mean looking Busa. Nice run SP

Overbooost … you’re right about Frank’s bike, but its impressive to look at!

There are quite a few bikes that run at Woodbridge and achieve over 220MPH that are road legal, but they aren’t on this forum. However, there are bikes that make more horsepower than mine on here if all the respective Dynos are correct, but top speed in these kind of figures is more down to aerodynamics and a slim rider with a good “tuck” … you’ve gotta get your chin on the tank!

Whatever floats your boat.

Perhaps you could do these runs through the blackwall tunnel to hear how the exhaust sounds, another odd thread I saw

gixergooner from what I can make out…you obviously like twisties rather than straights. No one is knocking you for it so stop knocking other people for what they enjoy more…each to their own.

Well said that man If the topic is not interesting to you then why bother posting on it

Have been tempted to run mine on a 1/4 mile, just for the grin it’s not quite got the legs 190 odd though!

Fair enough…I’ll try not to let the door hit me in the arse on the way out…

HA ha…good job u said that i was just gonna suggest …ah better still…no…cos im a ladee

SP?? brilliant write up…what a pic…and what stats! WISH id been there? Better than sex !! (sorta)

Dont forget though mate as skillful as cornering is drag racing has a high level of skill involved too. Getting the launch is what its all about. Anyone can twist the throttle and max a bike out on a 2 mile runway but quater mil is about the launch. If your rubbish at launching then your rubbish in the drag race and to actually get a spot on launch without frying your clutch, keeping the front wheel down and getting off at the fastest possible rate is very very difficult.

Terry,

Understood…I’m certainly not denying the amount of skill need for successful competing in Drag Racing events. As you say a good launch is a skill to be learned even off the grid on track. I certainly wouldn’t knock these events (Santa Pod etc) as they are just another aspect of biking.

I’m just puzzled by the mine is bigger than yours debate. We all know that the Hypersports bikes post circa 186mph on clocks and can tweak them for even more, therefore, surely any of the members with these are bound to have ‘the fastest road bike’ on the site. Stands to reason.

I’m more concerned by the approach of certain posters to these topics when they’ve previously stated they are going from 125 to an R1 without their DAS and then asking about top speed runs in a straight line. And how expensive insurance is

I half agree with you and only recently after a good few years of riding am I starting to learn about corners properly and progressing getting to a level I am happy with without corners theres no point to biking but I can also see the interest in the fastest straight line I suppose its each to there own. Also what type of forum is it when you can’t have a ruck

Exactly

gixergooner , its clear that the 125cc to R1 without DAS comment then doing top speed runs was aimed at me. Firstly, yeah I have moved up from a 125cc to an R1 however I have my DAS in a few weeks and have not riden the R1 on the road until I have insurance cover and equally important a full license. What ever I do with my life is down to me…if I die I die however I am careful and consider myself to be sensable hence I have not taken the bike on the road yet.

Anyway, I have been doing top speed runs far longer than that, I used to have the record for the fastest road legal fwd car in europe for quite some time so I know what its all about. Granted it’s totally diffierent on a bike however I have not come on here saying that I want to do that today however just put a post up asking what machines people have out there and which user of this board has the fastest proven bike. Sorry if I offended dude!

1/4 mile drag is indeed all about the first 60 foot. If you launch your machine well and get a good 60 foot time you will have a good 1/4 E/T. So it’s all about launch, hookup and the ability to keep the front rubber down. Terminal speed is a good indication of what real power you have…simple!
