What is it with BMW GS riders holding everyone up....

Has anyone else noticed that riders on the big BMW GS bikes tend to be arses about holding people back filtering. They get into a position where they could filter between cars but then they just sit there and don’t go for it. A line of bikes waiting to filter will build up behind them and they seem blissfully unaware. All too often they just sit there and block the gap without using it. It isn’t just the ones with the wide boxer engines either. An F800 was doing it yesterday.

So, dear BMW riders, if you aren’t going to filter through a gap checkyour mirrors occasionally and get the feck out of the way!!!

It those who attempt wi panniers and get stuck that bugs me but its 50/50 really. Some are very good!

typical BMW owner attitude in my experience

It’s the motorcycle equivalent of a Chelsea tractor. You see most of them in Chelsea also, never been over a patch of gravel, let alone offroad.

That’s hilarious.

Glad you made the distinction Simon!

As for Mian - wait 'til I get my hands on you!!:stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah Ally the 650 riders are normally LOVELY and good filterers…

It’s not only GS Ewanistas…

Saw a Yam Versys wedged into a City parking bay the other day - leaning on the bike to it’s left and squeezing the bike to it’s right because of the HUGE suitcases that pass for panniers that they had bolted on…

****** … do they REALLY need to carry their huge luggage into the city center on their morning commute???

If he had scratched my bike with em I would have been REALLY pissed off…:pinch::angry:

What about this filtering in front of you???

Excellent response Simon!!
Can only imagine how wide Mian’s must be when he’s carrying luggage :w00t: - must end up wider than a Smart Car! ;):stuck_out_tongue:

That car is missing two wheels…

what…havent you guys learned to filter through bikes as well as cars? its the new filtering, i think the jetstreams named it ‘cafetiering’

I’m a BMW rider who can confidently say I filter faster and more proficiently than probably most riders you’ve ever met!

I ride an S1000…for your knowledge

yup, not far off!

yeah but you aint got half a car hanging of the arse end of that S1000 have ya ??

Those Charlie n Ewan wannabees do get on ya tits just sitting there holding everyone up though…I filter with the luggage on mine and er indoors on the back its not difficult

This is true, however as I used to ride for BMW UK a few years back and was given an R1200GS fully loaded, I was pretty handy on that also!

Had a GS, most boring, predictable and crap at commuting bike i have ever owned.

If you insist on owning something that big to filter Buy a 990 Adventure - the word Adventure give its attitude away!!

Why do GS’ hold you up?.. you have seen the width of the bars!!

no wider than mine, and I don’t hold anyone up. its a psychological thing, they think the bike is wider than it actually is, and wont take the gaps.
The sitting in everyone’s way thing is an attitude problem, or that rider hasn’t thought ahead and got out of the way. I’ll take gaps that lots of other riders give up on as too small, but I do ride a big bike and a courier on a scooter behind be is always going to squeeze through, so i’ll get out of the way if a gap gets to small for me, but you know what it’s like, sometimes those gaps just close and you are stuck.

Yeah agreed, it’s an attitude thing. I ride a big bike too (and I am wider than a GS) so sometimes I can see that a biker (or often a scooter) behind me might want to go for gaps I don’t so I get out of the way. My manhood doesn’t fall off when I do that… it’s quite safe to do so.
