hi guys i need help, i got a ticket, like a twat forgot to pay the charge of 1.50 , but i had noticed that there is no bay number or sign to that motorcycle bay, what do you reacon my chances are with getting away with this, thanks dave
there are no signs at all?!
Whereabouts is it?!
I reckon you should chance it, get back as soon as you can and take photos…lots of photos.
Even if you contest it and don’t win you won’t have to pay any extra, sounds like you’ve got a good case.
You sure it was in westminster? there are a few bays that are close to other bays, but outside the zone, knightsbridge as a couple. No sign means no payment required.
This is a good point. I parked in a street just off Kingsway last week where one side of the street was Westminster telephone parking and the other side was Camden pay and display. Bl**dy confusing!
thanks guys for the info, i was parked in Carlton Gardens off Pall Mall, there are two bays on that street one with a sign, the other without, they took a stunning picture of my bike for my collection, the only thing was the picture was of a sign from the other bay, so should i still pay the f+++ers?
+1Absolutely correct. The council’s letter denying your appeal (if you make one - which you should) will state that a bike bay is clearly signed telling you to pay blah blah blah. Your defense is that you shouldn’t have to park your bike and then wander around half of London looking for signs that might state that you should pay - the sign has to be in the bay you have parked in.The general process is this:
Ticket
Appeal
Appeal denied
Appeal to the central review centre (they will send you details how to do this) and ask for an appearance, not a postal decision
Council backs down 2 days before hearing.
Get photos of the bay and measure distance from your bike to the sign. Send all with the appeal to the court-type-thingy.
This might be useful for you http://www.notobikeparkingfees.com/appeal-motorcycle-scooter-parking-tickets-pcns/ the charge in Westminster is unjust and unfair, you can get off the PCN by just saying it is your first, Westminster know that this parking tax was ill-thought through and illegally imposed without explaining that it is actually and experimental scheme.
While you are at it sign the 10 Downing St petition against it http://www.notobikeparkingfees.com/petition/ AND
object to the parking charge in its current form officially here http://www.notobikeparkingfees.com/objcet-by-e-mail/ this will send your objection to ALL 60 Westminster Councillors including Danny Chalkley the spear-head of the parking tax and all other relevant parties you will then be obliged to a reply from them and also you are doing your bit to stop this parking charge for bikes spreading.
Thanks! And good luck getting off the PCN although you are well in your rights and Westminster cannot argue.
Ok, you are all gonna hate me for what I am about to say but hey ho, here goes
I actually don’t see the problem with paying for parking in London, why should bikes be exempt, we don’t have to pay congestion charge which is fair enough as we don’t cause congestions but why shouldn’t we have to pay for parking, cars have to pay stupid prices to park in London for the day, no free parking anywhere for them and they pay congestion charge on top of this!! £1.50 a day isn’t that bad, obviously this will go up over the years as will the car parking charges, they do offer a discount if you pay for say a weeks or years parking in one go. Now I don’t know how much you would pay to park a car for the whole day but I bet it’s a damn sight more than £1.50 a day, prob more like £1.50 an hour!!
Anyway, that’s my two pence worth, feel free to correct me on anything I have said
fugging hell!! really? well there ya go, do your maths, if someone parks a car in London every day mon-fri, every week of ther year thats over £8k!!! We can park anually for about £150 a year if I am reading Westminster website correctly!!
Alex, you are obviously missing the point, not everyone can pay the annual parking permit, instead they pay the daily charge which is actually around £1.70 if you include the phone call made and the obligatory text message that gets sent to you confirming that you have paid, they charge you extra for that.
So in the long term it costs a lot of money, plus about 6/7 bikes can fit in one car bay and they can pay for the time they use the space where as motorcycles have to pay for a full day even if they are stopping for 15 minutes…
Don’t tell me you agree with that. The experimental Westminster parking charge for bikes is a flawed, unfair and socially exclusive, anti-motorcycle scheme, it is as simple as that.
If this scheme does get put through then it will be £1.70 this year then £3 next year and £5 after that, I think some of the Westminster Councillors were even saying that we should pay £10 per day… seriously this is pure money raising as we all know with out anything in return for the motorcyclists of London.
Alex, stand up for yourself look at the facts and support the campaign to stop this ridiculous charge, show Westminster motorcycles are the solution NOT the problem and that they should be encouraged, we must stop this charge and continue the campaign for better, plentiful and secure covered motorcycle bays, one of every street of London.
The issue is that Westminster City Council, by charging motorcyclists to park, has recovered by more than 7 times in less than six months the cost of providing additional parking spaces for motorcycles. It has made a total revenue of £2.2 million during the period August 2008 to January 2009 versus only £300k one-off expenditure. These figures have been published by a counciller (Paul Dimoldenberg) who works for Westminster City Council.
The whole thing is a pure robbery and a money making scheme. The council has been unabled to clearly indicate what it intends to do with the massive revenue that the scheme has been generating. The point is that motorcycles do not pollute as much as cars, do not congest at all and this is why their use is heavily encouraged by the Mayor of London. By imposing a parking tax, their use is discouraged which is counter-productive to the Mayor’s initiatives. If Westminster gets away with this parking tax, other councils will follow suit and we will end up paying everywhere we park and this will cost us a fortune… and discourage the use of a mode of transport that is a solution to a congested city.
