Just thought I might throw this one in… someone might reply.
I have a low mileage 04 plate Fazer FZ6s… Nice bike but I want something that is a bit more… well… BIKE!!!
Looking at Kawasaki ZRX 1200, Yamaha XJR 1300 or the Honda VTR1000 Firestorm… I’m 6ft 3, 16 stone… Looking for a fun bike… any suggestions…?
Not overly keen on the 1200 bandit before anyone goes there!
Firestorms a bit different to the other 2…quite a focussed sports bike compared to what you’re used to…bars are above the yoke so not full on but not exactly a relaxed muscle bike!!! My mate had one though and loved it and he’s dead tall. But do try one first.
XJR mint bike, would go for a CB1300 myself as prefer it to not be made of cheese but doesn’t look as good. ZRX exactly the same. Bandit 1200 also.
How about a Tuono, CB1000 (the new one), Hornet 900, Monster 900…
All would give a muscle bike a licking on the lanes…or you could go the other way and get a v-max.
My mates got a MT-01 which he’s done a lot of work on and it kicks out 148 torque!
HHmm XJR… Seen a few decent bikes with FSH low milage for around £3000.
Shall keep my eyes open… any advice welcome! at the moment the ZRX is top of my potential shopping list…
apparently xjrs do not like to lean… or turn… just like v-maxs.zrx- they say proper power, proper handling (for a 240kg beast) proper big bike.
Had an XJR1300 myself a couple of years back - the looks and torque attracted me most and to be honest it was a cracking bike but did get a little boring being left behind more than once and mine was a little " warmer " than standard . The power was there for the straight line stuff but once you need to " boogie " it did get a little fat and lardy feeling .
I would consider looking at a Kwak Z1000 - plenty of stomp for your money but more than happy when you hit the twisty bits ( with the odd adjustment to the rear suspension )
Go for the ZRX with the oldskool Eddie Lawson bikini fairing
Cracking bike (if a bit underpowered)
Thunderace might be a decent choice, hunt around and you might get a good example…
Seen a few nice ZRX’s… Had a look at 2 today… Found the S version… not sure if I’m keen on the fairing though… I think it has to be the Green ZRX1200… (found myself tempted by a TDM900 with full touring kit and really low mileage today as well…) (Only to carry my bike loving daughter around on mind… she wants a Yamaha 50cc Neo for her 16th!)
What sort of riding do you find yourself doing mostly?
Im biased towards sportsbikes so would say the Firestorm. And its a twin so would sound lovely with cans on.
I looked at a Firestorm last week, it was quite comfortable and a nice bike.
And, of course, its a Honda so you should have no reliability issues.
Im with this Geezer…ette, these are stonking good bikes, had one and loved it,want to get another and i can feel a plan coming together!!
go and test ride a b-king - then tell me what your thinking!!!
george whites slough have one on demo - 01753 518815 - speak to rob
Thinking OOgly as lordy!!!
I’ve been tempted by a TDM; are these any good? Bit put off by the 5 gears…if I bought one it would be so I could also do long distance stuff…
long distance you cant beat a gsx 1400:)
Oh come on! I think you can! Not exactly known for their distance ability…I’m talking 500 mile a day stuff…think my arms would be a bit too long by the end, and I’d need new tyres, sprockets and a chain, but I wouldn’t be able to afford them cos of my mortgage for the petrol I just used.
My kinda riding…
I use the tube to get into work…(i know!! but my works pays for my oystercard) My riding is just as a bit of fun on days off, weekends…
I choose to ride my bike instead of having to… I also go from London to Northampton and use the bike… so some distance work involved…
I am torn between an unfaired muscle bike and some kind of decent tourer with a pillion… just not ready for a pan yet or BMW… still want a good looking bike that I can hoon around on in the sun though!!!
how about a good condition fzs1000? its looks have groen on many since it’s been released, it’s fast, frugal, and more than capable, for begginers and experienced.
