hi all, took my bike down to SBK’s dyno a few days ago and they told me they can tune my standard ecu rather than putting on a power commander.
has anyone done this? as i am a bit weary of letting them doing it without knowing its ok to do so? they said and showed me a yoshimira box that adjusts the settings by pluging it into the ecu.
all comments welcome…
thanks alot.
dan
its a good thing!
I spoke to Steve Jordans and said the same thing. you can go ‘deeper’ into the ECU than the Power Commander can, values and nodes and the like (made up technical terms).
I will be doing the same on my gixer 750 k8 when I can stump up the 130-150 squid…
rhalf at sbk city is doing mine for me on the tuesday 6th january i will be there all day helping, watching and generaly getting in the way, but it is true the standard ecu can be remapped try looking at this from the gixxer boyz forum http://www.gsxrboyz.com/showtopic.php?tid/2347/ it is meant to give a better results than a power comander but is only worth it if you are keeping the setup ie pipe/filter and not wanting to swap it about, i have a K&N and a jap yoshi tri oval end can fitted so i’m happy with that its making 151bhp at the wheel but the fueling is a little off in some areas and rhalf will be sorting that out and mayby getting a few more ponies out of it as well, a friend has just had his K4 gixxer 600 done at SBK city by rhalf and he says the bike feels so much sweeter to ride a lot better throtle responce, better fuel economy, smoother, less snatchy, all round an lot nicer to ride he has a K&N a tri oval yoshi and a remap and has 103 bhp at the wheel, if you are around on the 6th pop down to sbk city as the owner and tunning guy rhalf is a top fella and a member on this forum and he knows a thing or 2 about tunning fuel injected bikes and should be able to answer any concerns you have about doing it and you will get to hear mine being thrashed to death on the dyno the can sounds sweet on full chat
who quoted you this phantom ??? try sbk city they quoted me £120 to remap mine but that may be a deal as i had a service done there recently
this was a general figure from Steve Jordans and West London Suzuki.
I have met rhalf before when I took my gixer for a dyno run. He is a top top fella who races triumph daytonas and knows alot about bikes…
He offered me the same price too. That is true about the ECU set up. only worth doing to the ECU if you are happy with your set up…
I will be having a BMC street filter and have a yoshi tri oval dual exit slip on, waiting to be tuned up…
It’s a common thing to retune a Suzuki ECU using a Yoshi Box. I’ve had mine done a couple of times.
thanks alot for all our replys peeps!looks like i will be booking the bike in, in the next few weeks, just need to pick up a k&n first.
thanks for your offer gizza but i will be working on the 6th, but would be nice to hear how your bike is going after your tune up.
thanks again all!!

only prob with a yosh box is it’ll move a wobbly fuel line up and down but not straighten it out !
Things must have changed, as when I had a K1 750, we remapped the stock ECU on that for £50, though it was never meant to be as good a job as the Power Commander route as there were only a few points across the throttle range where it could be adjusted, whereas a Power Commander allows for a much greater degree of change.
With my last two bikes I’ve gone down the Power Commander route with custom maps from Crescent Suzuki (of BSB fame) and have got much better gains than via the ECU remap. I don’t know if what’s being talked about nowadays is different to back then though. That was in 2004. A custom map from Crescent was about £200 (inc install, not PC unit). I’ll be back down there with the new bike.
You’re right Jay, a remapped OEM ECU is never going to be as accurate or flexible as a Power Commander but its a fraction of the price. I’ve now got a PC3 for my TL as 2 attempts at “Yoshi Box” has failed to sort out the bottom end fuelling. Hopefully the PC3 will put it to bed. I guess it’s another case of “You gets what you paid for”
I got a new '08 busa and put on a new exhaust system…Go to the suzuki store and put it on the dyno…
fuel was not 13:1 with atmospere air…so we remaped the ecu with Tekka…And run it on dyno again…
That change fill up my lows and make the mix rich…Before it was 18:1 and now it is 14:1 at most of rpm…I got 4 horses out of this and a heathier engine…
Do it and u’ll like it
This was taken from a mail asking Steve Jordans (Suzuki) about Power Commanders and tuning ECUs.

The cost is £150.
If you buy a PC you have the cost of that plus remapping on top, which does need doing to suit the bike.
So it does depend on how deep your pockets are. Steve’s powerbike has the stock ECU still with a remap and is producing 190bhp with spot on fueling. Kind of shows your better of saving the money you would use to buy the PC and spending it on a trackday instead!.*
just had the ecu remaped on my k3 today and its been worth the price £120 it feels so much smoother and quicker all round so much nicer to ride i just need an o2 sensor fitted to sort out a slight lean fueling betwwen 4500rpm-6000rpm, thats getting fitted on saturday cost £20 from cresent suzuki so will post a dyno run up after its finished but its making more than the 151bhp it had before and the curve is much better
sounds good to me!
ill defo be up there soon i recon…
mine is poping and farting for fun haha
and stinks of fuel all the time, out the exhaust…
yeah keep in touch gizza, will be nice to know what you think in the end.
cheers
pop up on saturday and speak to rhalf he has my k3 while i’m at work all day so will know saturday night on the way home
The Yoshbox mappings will never be as good as a PC and you would be daft to pay £120 for a yoshbox tune. However, apparently on the later gixers (K6 onwards I think) they now have 32 bit ECUs that can be mapped with special Suzuki software, and I believe that Steve Jordans has the facility to do this. That is what I was told. I went with a PC3 and a O2 sensor though, because I still think that they provide the best end results in terms of linear power and smooth throttle response (I’m not fussed with another 2.723 rwhp…).

i apriciate what your saying about the pc being better but im not looking for my bike to be any faster, i just want it to run right and if it can be done for 120 quid rather than 400 quid, i know the route i will be taking. ive already had my bike on the dyno and they showed me my chart and the fuel richness is off the scale! would just like to bring this down…
might pop down if i can on saterday gizza, dont want to do mine yet as ive not put a new air filter in yet.
thanks all.

a new air filter will lean out the mixture no end and will go a long way to sorting out the fueling and will give a little more power as well maybe 2 or 3 bhp the better one to get from popular opinon on the gsxr boys forum is the bmc race one very close behind is the K&N which i have in mine which it came fitted with, i would like to have put a pc 3 on mine but money is tight at the moment just after christmas and having the standard ecu done was worth every penny imo as the bike feels so much nicer to ride and feels like it has more ohmph every where and slow riding through traffic used to be a bit tricky now its perfect and the 2nd to 3rd gear wheelies are fantastic, and as for popping down on saturday i dont think rhalf will mind at all but i won’t be there but speak to him and ask him to show you the maps/dyno runs from mine and see what you think
The DynaPro system can fully retune the Suzuki ECU, no PCIII needed. It does it per injector/cylinder and will smooth throttle response etc… I think Rhalf has one and I know Nigel at Amazing Bikes has a DynaPro as well (think it is £150 for a full retune etc…). Nigel had a Hayabusa on the machine that was setup with a PCIII and it ran better when the PCIII was removed and the ECU programmed direct. Smoother, more power and cheaper to sort.
I’ve got a K&N and an Arrow can on mine and the bike also runs so rich its off the scale! I was expecting it to be running lean.
Rhalfs gonna be mapping mine so it runs nicer and gives me a slightly better fuel economy - he reckoned an extra 20 miles a tank
