Sold Secure/Thatcham Disc Locks/Chains

Just changed the insurance on my R1 to my new TLS and been informed that in the abscence of an alarm I need to use a Sold Secure/Thatcham approved Disc Lock or Chain. Any recommendations on make/price etc? I already use a couple of generic Motorcycle chains and locks but they want a recognized one. Cheers.

only one option mate… allmax

+1 for Almax. Can’t beat 'em. literally!

I assume this is what you mean

yeah… sorry should have put up a link

No worries, I didnt mean to sound ‘short’. My new TL is working out a bit more expensive than I first thought. Bloody good fun though:D

if you can go for the ‘chain+lock+anchor = free kriega tailpack’ option

Anyone want to try for an Almax LB group discount?

I’m looking for an Almax too. Not sure about the anchor though.

And me Im in for an Almax soon happy to wait and do a group deal. Not long though only a week or so before I will need it

Sounds like a plan

I’m in for a group deal, too.

mention LB and you will get a deal anyways

Dropped them an email, see reply below.

Sure we can do you a deal on a group buy. depends on how many you want and what sort of sizes etc, give us a ring and we can give you a good deal

So, never having done this before, although I am quite happy to follow it up and organise a group buy, if someone else would rather do it thats fine. If not I’ll give them a ring and find out the details etc.

In the meanwhile, if you want to get out cheap and have an easy to carry Thatcham rated option, the Oxford “Boss” alarmed disc lock is a pretty good piece of kit for, say, £30ish.

5 of us so far??!

Surely the rest of you guys don’t want to get your baby stolen overnight?!

I’d like a 2.5metre chain to lock mine to my neighbour’s bike. We’ve agreed to split costs for the chain as long as it comes with 2 keys

PS - the Oxford Boss is a piece of krap. If you get the one with the alarm, it’s not much better when the battery dies and you find the battery compartment is jammed and you can’t get the battery out. Oxford locks are absolute rubbish. I’ve got 5 Oxford locks and none of them are bolt cropper proof. Good against opportunist chavs only!

Oxford “Boss”. Krap it’s not. Battery compartment jambed? Tried unscrewing the allen screw that secures it?

O.K. it’s not a serious piece of security but is secure against all but the determined and a good deal (possibly about 80%) of bike thefts are opportunists.

Let’s get this straight. If a professional wants your bike, it’s gone unless chained by the frame to something immovable. Even that will only slow them down.

But who wants to cart 10 kilos of chain and lock around all the time?

Might join the Almax club so stick me down on the list.

As for disk locks I have a Motrax Vishas disk lock and it is good and heavy.

OK then, have spoke to the very nice guys at Almax and here’s the deal.

Almax Immobiliser Series III (1.5m length) + Squire SS65CS Stronghold Lock - £149.95

Comes with free Kriega lock bag to strap to the pillon seat. Normally only comes when you order the ground anchor, but due to supply problems Almax dont have any of the cheaper CISA locks so we have to go with the dearer Squire SS65CS Stronghold Lock hence the freebie. Link below:

Extra discount is dependent on how many I order.

The people who have expressed an interest so far are:

Teflon (me)
Junhas7
Taffster
Kevsta
Scooterassassin (if still interested I will find out about the 2.5 metre chain and the 2 keys thing)

They would have to be delivered to one address (mine probably) and I would bring them up to BM (dont know how to get to the ACE). I am more than happy to do this but if some people cant get to BM we can try to sort something out. PM or email me.

Hi Teflon,

Thanks for going to the effort to organise this.

But I want a 2.5metre chain!!!

The 1.5metre chain is way too small…I need a 2.5metre chain to fit around an anchor, my neighbour’s bike and mine. the 1.5metre chain isn’t that useful to me at all - it wouldn’t fit around the pillar I lock my bike onto :frowning:

might be difficult getting 5+ allmax chains to BM on a bike! :w00t:
