I work nearby so I could get them delivered there, failing that I’ll drive:)
tbh your better off with the squire lock:)
i also got 2 of these off ebay the other day for £60 for 2:w00t:
also these work very well with the almax and squire combo;)
**Oxford “Boss”. Krap it’s not. Battery compartment jambed? Tried unscrewing the allen screw that secures it?
O.K. it’s not a serious piece of security but is secure against all but the determined and a good deal (possibly about 80%) of bike thefts are opportunists.
Let’s get this straight. If a professional wants your bike, it’s gone unless chained by the frame to something immovable. Even that will only slow them down.
But who wants to cart 10 kilos of chain and lock around all the time?**
DOH!!
I’ve just discovered the allen key you mentioned! I thought these alarms had a built in battery with built in obsolete functions, like a failing and unreplaceable battery!
I’m more worried about my bike being nicked from home: that’s where I keep it mostly. Otherwise I move it about, so most only opportunist thieves target it
WELL.
I used an allen key and opened it up. Surprise surprise! There are 6x A76 (LR44) batteries inside. Replaced these with new ones, and reassembled it.
A tapping clicking noise results. No continuous long tone when the locking arms are re-inserted. Rotated the other way - no difference. But the tapping noise is continuous. It would certainly attract attention for it’s weird tapping.
Looks like it’s malfunctioned. Crappy Oxford locks!!! Grrrr.
Another month’s salary for a decent Almax
___________________________________________________Already have a ground anchor system in use but I was looking at this for my needs to step up security - 19 MM Almax Immobiliser Series IV Uber + Squire SS65CS Lockhttp://www.almax-security-chains.co.uk/r59kix123942/Almax-Immobiliser-Series-IV/c-1-70/ 1M long £139.95
I’d be keen but my finances aren’t good at all! I bought a Abus chain that was insurance approved for £90, wish I bought this instead.
Done mine now as it is needed sooner rather than later.Due to the size of links on the 19mm series IV I was advised to get the 1.5M version as the 1M version I asked for would be too short to use even through one wheel :w00t:Let you know how it goes when it turns up

Did you clean the contacts?
Did you use WD 40?
Did you look at the little embossed diagram that shows which way round the new batteries should be fitted?
Just like your bike they need the odd service.
If your bike came to a stop because you’d not put petrol in it, would that make the bike crappy too?
Get real. They are Thatcham (rip off) rated, portable and pretty reliable when looked after. Oh, and cheap if you shop around.
As I said, it’s a pretty good piece of kit and I’ll stand by that.
:DWell it turned up today and is much larger than my previous chain set up :w00t:Pictures FYI and consideration for you own needs.
Series IV 1.5M Almax chain and top of the range Squires padlock.
First picture to see the scale of the chain link V a tea spoon!
Second picture to see the scale of the chain link V an Oxford Monster chain

The risk assessment now includes manual handling :w00t:
