On the face of it, I really liked these. Looked cool, right biking bits (stretch panels, leg zips, pockets, pockets for armour, connecting zip). Right price.
But 20 minutes of wear and my girlfriend is not at all impressed. Seams are coming away, labels coming off, buttons loose and apt to fall off after a few rides. They didn’t look like seconds or returns in the shop, but that’s the quality of them. The kevlar lining is a laughably small area, I wouldn’t put these high on protection levels over a regular pair of jeans with some armour inserts. Shoddy. And you have to have something on underneath if you don’t want the awful internal seams rubbing on your legs.
If you want the illusion of safety to kid yourself or want to fob naysayers off by telling them you’re wearing proper bike jeans etc. then fair enough. Otherwise, don’t bother IMHO. Or just have the smalls to wear regular jeans.
We’re off to exchange for a proper pair of textile trous.
Draggin’s stand at the excel show had a safety certificate stapled to the wall that showed red-routes failed something.
Whether they were prototype jeans that were tested and have since been updated ect. I don’t know but it was disconcerting and solidified my decision to go with the draggins. Looked at the armour in the red-routes and they were about as thick as paper. :w00t:
Oh yeah, and the stock armour inserts, no worse foam that anything else you get these days, but they were so think that they hurt her knees. We swapped out for some HG hiprotec stuff and it made all the difference (before deciding to ditch them).
Thanks for the heads up. I was considering these as an alternative to draggin jeans as the ladies sizes are quite tight at the bottom of the legs so don’t go over race boots very well and I’m not a fan of the jeans tucked in boots look… unles they’re skinny jeans and high heels which probably aren’t that suitable for riding :w00t:
They’re fine and certainly comfy enough, but I’m going to get some proper strap-to-your-leg armour to go under them. They’re a bit too baggy at the knee for comfort - whatever armour I put in there would slide about something chronic if the unthinkable happened.
Shewoolf, my missus had to get blokes jeans in the red route as the women’s just didn’t fit right (and then she had to get overly long ones). The draggin jeans are more atuned to the female form. So I’m told.
I went to Infinity with the intention to buy meself a pair of draggin jeans but after trying on the first pair I realised that it was time for me to reach for sum mens style jeans (this is where the red routes come in). But because they did not have my size I decided to go online and order a pair of red routes…then I found and read this topic:w00t:…oh dear…I will try to cancel my order or if it’s too late and them jeans get delivered I will try to send them back…
a mate of mine bought some red routes but they look inferior to my draggins when it comes to quality of materials and manufacture. IMHO draggins are expensive but worth it; traffic model don’t look too bad either
I’ve got 2 pairs of Red Route and to be honest… I’m not impressed with them either.
On one pair, one pocket is sewn skew-if; on the other pair… the fly is stupidly short. The pouches for the armour fray and the velcro on one of them doesn’t hold properly.
They’re still usable, but I won’t be getting any more. I’ve had Draggins and they’re fine, but recently I got a pair of Hood jeans and IMHO they beat them both.
The Hoods look most like normal jeans - no stitching where the Kevlar is sewn in… and by far the most amount of Kevlar I’ve seen in a pair of biker jeans. It’s more like wearing knee-length Kevlar shorts with a pair of jeans sewn on top. (see for yourselves here: http://www.hoodjeans.co.uk/html/woven_aramid.html )
I have received my Red Route Jeans, well, they have sent me a completely different pair, not what I have ordered so they are going back. I have already e-mailed the seller about it so will wait for a reply and then post the jeans back to them;)
You can get Hood jeans direct from Hood… Nice little British firm who make the jeans here in the UK. You pick a waist size and tell them how long you need the leg and they trim the jeans to order - bloomin’ brilliant!
Their website isn’t flashy, but don’t let that put you off… it’s genuine:
Cheers for the link fella - is their website the only place we can get them from?? They sound really good but would want to try them first… I’m a bit taller than most unfortunatly! :hehe:
I’m not sure you if you can get them in stores… possibly? But when you order online you get to specify the leg length (in inches) that you want and they trim them to order. I’m 6ft1 myself and found that a 34inch leg fits fine… The jeans are pre-shrunk so they won’t get shorter in the wash either!
Nice link, thanks. Just seen the link to the Kyrano UK site. Has anyone bought the ladies jeans (Women’s Kyrano Jean) on here and if so, how do they fit?
I got a pair of Hood Jeans last year and they seem pretty bomb proof to me. If you give them a call and have a chat about sizes etc. you’ll find them really helpfull.
