RBLR 1000 2012

On a side note… we do not ride as a group, once the hanky drops you are out on your own for it. :smiley:

Me too, bring it on!

You can buddy up, might be worth it when out in the sticks…

Side note shd we check numbers and see if we can get a deal on hotel rooms?

hmmmif marks is megasorebutt

is Ang going to be AngsagonisingAnus … i swear ive seen that video though

To the old hands, are leathers a bad idea? I don’t have any decent textiles. Have ridden about the same distance before but in sunny Europe. Does it get really cold up in the highlands? I assume being cold can lead to more fatigue.

Leathers and some cheap waterproofs should be fine. It is summer so you could get any weather but probably not cold. The midgies can be a problem if you stop in the wrong place.:smiley:

Midgies?Try explaining that to the missus when you’ve had a pee at the side of the road

A couple of points about this ride. :slight_smile:
Riding with buddy’s yes it can be done but make sure you have similar riding patterns. Plan your rest breaks and fuel stops before so you all know when your next stop is. :smiley:
riding with buddy’s will slow you down but it can always encourage you to carry on.

Sleep. Make sure you get some early nights in leading up to this ride. I normally get a 5am start and ride right through to the finish in one go. Some people stop anywhere along the route to get a power nap in. If you are getting to tired to ride safely you must stop and get your head down for 30/45 mins, or even be prepared to pull out of the ride completely. there is no shame in pulling out if it is not safe for you to continue :slight_smile:

Tank Range. There is plenty of fuel on route. I would plan your stops (including the checkpoints) and do a quick bit of research into the garages you plan to stop at.

Food and Drink. I tend to eat choccie bars and crisps while I am filling in the ride log and drink still drinks. I treat myself to a coffee every third fill up, I never stop for a sit down meal as I wouldn’t want to get going again.
Riding Gear. I’ve done this ride three times now and none have been the same whether. Last year I rode for 15 x hours in torrential rain be prepared just in case. In 2010 I did the whole ride in brilliant sunshine. :slight_smile:

If anyone is doing the Northern routes there are a couple of shortcuts to make it a bit easier, and save you about 44miles. :smiley: I can also show you some remote petrol garages that may help. :slight_smile:
I will put up my planned route soon complete with my stops. :smiley:
B&B’s There are plenty of reasonably priced places to stay within easy reach of Squires Cafe, I use the Travellodge at Leeds Colton Fri night, Sat night, 2pm Dept Sunday for £ 60.50 for 2 people Bargain. :slight_smile: Or you can do that C##ping thing at Squires. :slight_smile:

Mark - thanks for all the info.

So you van set off either Friday or Saturday morning from Squires???

I have just booked off some days around that weekend for getting up there and recovering.

I’m planning the Scotland route, so welcome the tips you mention there too :slight_smile:

Hi all,
If you intend to do the 1000 miles this year in under 24 hours and therefore be able to apply for an Iron Butt Association “Saddlesore” certificate, please let me know your chosen route in advance. This will be either:
Route A – North Clockwise (Squires-M62-Fort William-Wick-Edinburgh-Berwick-Squires) 1018 miles or;
Route B – North Anti-Clockwise (Squires- Berwick - Edinburgh -Wick- Fort William - M62-Squires) 1042 miles or;
Route C – South Clockwise (Squires-Dover-Southampton-Redruth-Telford-M62-Squires) 1034 miles or;
Route D – South Anti-Clockwise (Squires- M62-Telford- Redruth-Southampton - Dover-Squires) 1031 miles.

This will enable the IBA to prepare your certificate in advance and you will then be able to collect it at the end of the ride once verification has confirmed that you did indeed do the miles. This will prevent delays in getting your certificate.

If you have not stated you route choice at the time of application, please email it to [email protected].

Likewise if you have stated on your application that you have forgotten your IBA number and then suddenly find it, please email me that too.

Thank you, and have a safe ride

would love to do something like this… need a bigger bike

Was going to say id be down for that but if im not working im going to be in bruge

Registered and doing North Clockwise!!

Time is fast approaching so I’m getting all the practice in as possible :smiley:

Just a little reminder that I’m doing it for our chosen charity, London’s Air Ambulance. My just giving page is at the bottom so if you are feeling generous or sorry for me any donation would be gratefully received :kiss:

Remember the closing date for entries is the 8th June so make your minds up, come and join in and help make a difference. :slight_smile:
