After recent conversations about points on your license… i’m intrested to see how many people have points on their license and for what reasons?? The only reason i ask, is because i never had any (touch wood) and i have been driving for roughly 9 years now and riding for 1 year.
:w00t:
14 years of licence and 3 points 11 years ago. A few close shaves though…
Until I moved down South under 4 years ago I’d never been done for speeding and been driving for years and years and years.
I got 3 points one morning when driving to a garage at 6:00am to collect some bread and milk for the Yoga Retreat breakfast Iwas on. Dual carriageway totally deserted and I was clocked at 69.2 mph, it was 70 limit for most of the route but must have changed somewhere to 50 and I didn’t see any sign but the camera didn’t care.
Got another 3 points riding into london on the days when i was on the 125, just gave it some throttle to get out of trouble and flash, the camera got me.
This had happened a couple of weeks before and hadn’t realised but I went on a speed awareness for this and escaped the points. Actually came through with flying colours and made me realise that I’m a pretty good rider. Was interesting though that it was geared to car drivers and the people running it wouldn’t even discuss biker points of view.
So be mindful that it is very easy to get caught. Elderly folk that have clean licences for decades now find that they have points for being just a little over the limit.
The council threw up a new speed camera in southampton where i used to live and dropped the speed limit to 30 and the bleedin thing got me at 34 on the same day it became active. I knew it was there too damnit was kicking myself.
The second was another speed camera on the A303, 78 in a 70 ns/dc. Happily, both these SP30’s dropped off last June
Funilly enough I have been stopped twice by coppers, once on the M23, no traffic, I was doing 85 and a blue volvo unmarked pulled me. I spotted the services sign so rather then pulling into the hard shoulder I went on about another 5 miles and pulled into the services at pease pottage and stopped, approached his car and said “I was going a bit quick then wasnt I?” and he just shrugged and said no worries.
Another in devon through some roadworks, motorcycle coppa pulls me doing 50 through some 40 roadworks. He was obviously a bit pissed off - he stormed up to me and grumbled “So whats your excuse?” to which I replied “No excuse sir, foot to far to the floor, what can I say?” and he smiled and went on his merry way.
All of this was in a car when I was doing 1500 miles a week for work, so I have got off lightly.
On me bike, not a sausage so far, but I did get flashed in the limehouse tunnel and never heard anything from it.
Bring back the human element into speeding I say. Now I’ll stop waffling.
I have been driving for 8 years and riding for 1 and have no points! (well… not officially anyways)
Got 6 points, plus £535 fine 3.5 years ago. Had 5 points 7 years ago.
Yeowch!
Quite right redster. The points were bad enough, but the money really did hurt. Still, got off without a ban so felt it was a reasonable result. Took out licence insurance after the visit to the Magistrates court.
Only got points quite a few years ago coming back from Clacton on a bank holiday weekend. Got stopped by an unmarked car, he was generous as I was doing over a ton, and he did me for breaking, 30/50/70. Got £50 fine, 3 points for 4 years, as I pleaded guilty by post to the court.
That was many, many years ago, clean so far at the moment - touch wood!
None, in 23 yrs of driving and 5 yrs on a bike.
(But of course, you could never get speeding tickets on a scooter
)
3 points currently for speeding, and guess where… North Wales! Don’t mind though, Why?
I was towing a caravan (with a car before some smart arse says it) I think they gave me the points as a prize for breaking the speed limit with a caravan!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D
far too many points to count :w00t:
always while driving truck none on bike gutted eh ? hazard of city driving I guess
but looking at your avitar youve had a fine ![]()
Where’s Arnie? :hehe:
Been driving 16 years and nearly 4 years on the bike. Grant total of nil points. Nada. nothing.
Lost my licence in 96 for getting caught doing 147mph on the M1, on the way to a porsche super cup race.
3 points have just come off from a speed camera incident at the north end of the A1. A further 3 points with another year to go, from a mobile camera near Folkestone. So down to three points.
Pulled doing 100mph on the M3, two years ago, by an unmarked car. Took the ticking off with great humility and got off with a wrist slap.
All in cars; never picked up anything on the licence whilst on the bike.
Car License nearly 29 years and 3 Points around 24 years ago
Bike License 5 Years Nill poi
Lets hope this is not tempting fate
Thats because you dazzle the cameras with the dayglow and shiny (if not smelling of vinegar) pipes!! ![]()
I’ve currently got 6 points showing on my licence all for speeding.
3 on my bike and 3 in my car.
Been riding 30 years and had a total of 15 points IIRC, not too bad:cool:
6 points in total. one sp30 and one ts10. Cant remember how fast I was going in the speeding fine but couldnt have been that bad as only a 60 quid fine. Being done for going through a red light - 60 quid as well - really got to me tho. Its an absolute no no in my opinion and I cant believe I got done something like a second or two after it had changed especially as I was moving with if not between the morning rush hour traffic, freezing cold and just trying to stay alive. Even worse I was clocked at the sped limit. AAAArgh. Wouldnt have been done if was speeding :w00t:
Anyway I know one of them’s off the licence now and I think the others due off this year sometime.
About three 30 quid fines for the sexy numberplate tho
All in all not the best but not bad for about 10 years of riding.
