So as you all know i’m getting rid of the KTM to upgrade to a more “Hoonigan” Super Moto. I had decided on the KTM 690 SMC R, but then Dhofty told me about the 690 Enduro which is almost the same bike but you have the option to switch to the SM wheels whereas the SMC-R is harder to switch to the Enduro wheels due to the Brake Caliper mounting position.
Just seen this at Hysides…
Now i don’t know what to do!!!
Shall i get the SMC-R and just use it as a SuperMoto or go with the Enduro and get SM Wheels for it and have the Option to go Enduro riding if i wanted
Just sack off the SM lark and get a dirt bike. Knobblies are better than they look on tarmac.
But, yeah, I’d expect different springs (and perhaps cartridges/default settings) on the SM vs Enduro bike, and the brake to be different. You might be able to bolt the same rotor onto each wheel (that’d be handy) so you don’t need to change brakes or adaptors when you switch between wheelsets, but that’d leave you with deciding between the stopping power of the enduro when doing sm stuff and the in-the-wayness of the sm rotor when playing in the woods.
If you mostly using for road then get the smc-r. Enduro would be better option if you are touring a bit but when in sm trim on enduro suspension and brakes is not great.
My vote is smc-r
It all depends what you want to use the bike for… If you are planning to hit the lanes or want to be able to explore that, the Enduro is the way to go. You are quite handy with a spanner so the conversion shouldn’t be too difficult (but read up on it rather than taking my information which is based on a limited number of threads I seem to have read over the years).
I want mainly sm but I would like the option for enduro without too much hassle. I don’t think I will be using it to the ability required to notice the difference of the smc-r over the enduro with sumo wheels on the enduro.
But when I think about it I may only put it in enduro spec 3 or 4 times a year so am I compromising the better bike for the sake of a couple of rides.
