Nasty Feeling !!!

Got a really nasty feeling that I am going to get made redundant this afternoon :(Got a meeting with my Director ( couldn’t direct fuggin traffic ! ) to discuss an " employment review " and due to the groups current " restructuring " there is a high possibility of me be one of the " casualties of war "

What really boils my p155 is that THEY were the ones who head hunted me from a position that I had been doing for three years and was deemed as being fairly " secure " ( if there is such a thing these days ? ) and then , after only 6 months , I’m looking like ending up out on my ear !!

Never been in this situation before and I don’t mind admitting that I am ( to a certain degree ) " bricking it "

Hey Ho - roll on 4 o’clock - cometh the hour , cometh the man and all that !

:crying:

Is that 3 years with the same company?

Make sure that the follow the letter of the law, as if you are being made redundant you get a consulataion period, which I think is 30 days, and they also have to look to see if there are any other vacancies in the business that you can do, and if so, you should be asked to apply for one of those.

Also make sure that the “package” that they are offering is in line with HR law.

I think that the minimum is one week per month, plus your notice period.

Hope that you are wrong.

good luck dude, hope whatever happens it suits you,
all the best jim

been there before. aint nice. good luck!

The current standing is about £315 per year of employment but it is only valid for 2 years employment.

Remember that they cannot make you redundant they have to make the position redundant.

The notice period is 1 week per year of employment.

If you do have any questions then the best thing is to call ACAS on 08457 47 47 47

Best of luck.

Unfortunately it is only 6 months with this company ( 3 years with the one that they " headhunted " me from :frowning: )

As far as I understand I won’t qualify for any sort of " redundancy package " as not been here for 12 months ?

Deffo gonna try and play on the old " heartstrings " thing and been advised to , at least , ask what sort of package over and above my normal notice package they will give me for the " inconvenience " ( don’t hold out much hope though :frowning:

May well be the excuse I need to set up " South Bucks Superbikes " that I have always dreamed about LOL

OH NO I DO HOPE NOT, GOOD LUCK WITH IT ALL

On your contract do you have a probation period, this can be anything from 1 month to 12 months - this is because it is usually 3 months or 6 months, and then it can be extended.

If you have a probationary period, and that has not elapsed, then you are entitled to nothing, apart from your notice period.

Ring your old company up, presume that you parted on good terms, and see if you can get your old job back.

It takes more money to recruit, than it does to take back a known entity.

Check your contract before this afternoon.

Fingers crossed, they’re offering you a promotion!

yes go for it…I can get the bikes from the US real cheap…and you could easily get a Kawasaki dealership I bet…

Ouch. I’ve been there.

Good luck - I hope it goes the right way for you.

Strangely enough Twoies , High Wycombe lost it’s Kwak franchise about 12 months ago so you could be on to something there ( if only I had the balls and knowledge to make it work :frowning: ) and KwakUK are only 2 miles away in Bourne End so would be their closest dealership :w00t:Hmmmmmmmmmmm ( brain starts whirring LOL )

You need to be working for a company for at least two years to qualify for the statutory minimum package. Seriously, give ACAS a call they will be able to give you all the advice that you need.

Its easy get a shop, get the bikes and support of a franchise, dont need a massive amount of cash to start with as long as you can live off little for a whileand away you go…are you a good mechanic, you usually need one of them quiet quickly…the balls you will have to supply but its more a case of blind faith in the end…I have been doing my own business’ for 25 years…I have always wanted to sell bikes and electric cars…

Spannering defintely isn’t my forte buddy LOLHave spent all my working life so far in the motor trade both retail and B2B " trade " sales so diversifying into two wheels could work for me ?Need to have a serious think if the inevitable happens this afternoon ( and perhaps a chat with the local Kwak rep )

good luck fella hope it goes in your favour:)

Good Luck. I hope it isn’t what you suspect it might be.

Found out today 2 people from here got the boot, really hoping for you man that it is not the same way.

Good luck

I feel the first LB business partnership blooming  If you need a ‘tester’, I’d be happy to help

good luck mate…

also found out that someone i know from my old job is being made redundant… :ermm:

if you do get redundat you might want to read the information that is here:

http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/life/employment/redundancy.htm

mainly about ‘Sham’ redundancy:

Employers often claim that there has been a reduction in the work needing to be done but this is not the real reason for dismissing someone. It is important to look at the circumstances surrounding the ‘redundancy’, as the following may indicate that the real reason for the dismissal is not redundancy:-

  • if your employer has recently taken on other people, this could indicate that there has not been a reduction in the amount of work to be done
  • if you are the only person being made redundant, or one of only a few in a large company, this might indicate that the type of work you do is still needed
  • if you are pregnant, a woman, from an ethnic minority, disabled, gay or of a particular religion, this might indicate you have been dismissed because of discrimination rather than because of a general need to reduce the workforce
  • if you had a bad relationship with your employer, this might indicate you have been dismissed for a reason other than a general need to reduce the workforce
  • your age. There are rules about age discrimination at work which mean that your employer isn’t allowed to choose you for redundancy based on your age. But they are allowed to choose you for redundancy based on how long you’ve been working for them.
