A week or so ago Kings College Hospital wrote to me to tell me that my crash helmet was in their property store, and would I like to pick it up. Today one of colleagues popped in there, and has e-mailed me a picture of it. There is a smear of blood* above the eye line, and it’s cracked around the jaw area. The other side is similar without the gravel rash along the side…* the first person who called police, was an off duty traffic officer who has lots of experience of dealing with serious and fatal accidents… his comments on the phone to the control room were " serious rta, motorcyclist involved, not moving, blood pouring from helmet. believed fatal" - so I’m lucky to be here!
AMAZING
just goes to show what buying the right lid can do.
god speed john
and full face opposed to open.
blimey! your a lucky man!!!
Very lucky indeed considering what the guy said when he found you!!
Jeees dude. That really does look like it took a battering.
As said in previous posts - speaks volumes for the correct type and quality of gear. Glad ive got a Shoei and despite moaning about the prices I will be getting another.
Jeez Louise!!!:w00t:
You really do owe Shoei a debt of gratitude don’t you John?
Next time I hear someone say “You’re mad paying hundreds for a lid, my £45 one is just as good” I will point them towards this picture:cool:
Luck don’t come into it, I say “Good Choice”
took a hell of a battering that lid, doesnt bare thinking about what would have happened if you were wearing an open face lid
I don’t think a man’s helmet could take more of a bashing! :w00t:
Glad you’re still here.
Bl**dy hell you are a lucky chappie! Good of you to post it up as this sort of thing breeds the sensible cells in most of us.
On a brighter note the phrase “blood on my helmet” keeps making me giggle like a school boy!
You could send it back to Shoei. They usually like to see how their lids behave in an accident.
jeez…thats has taken an impact…
lucky, nah…good lid saved ya life mate think my next one will be slightly better than my current one…
that must have been some serious head-first dive!
i guess the 4 star sharp rating is not good enough
Wow, just shows you can’t skimp on equipment - gald you are doing well mate
Just for the record, what model lid is that and what’s it usually retail for?
( Sorry I’m an Arai man and don’t know one Shoei from another:Whistling: )
woah  showed this to both my lil bro’s earlier as I keep seeing them coming in with straps undone etc.
has the council sent u a bil for scraping their tarmac yet?

It’s a Raid II, I think it retails for £220, or something around there, it’s the budget model… I actually only paid £140!
Holy cr@p John, there by the grace of god etc…
