Sure but Boris doesn’t say that he won’t charge motorcycles through the congestion charge. He just says, which I agree with, the revenue from the congestion charge should be better spent in improving the roads etc. But that doesn’t mean he won’t charge bikes.
At least we know that with Ken we will remain exempt from the congestion charge, especially that he wants to exempt cars with the lowest emissions and bikes produce even less emissions that those cars.
I think some londonbikers need to take Boris out and about on a bike in london to let him see the benefits. Then all vote him in and that arsewipe ken OUT:D
I agree with Gixergooner - Boris is a Libertarian and so less likely to tinker and put in more restrictions.
I have written to his website asking for his position on bikes in bus lanes but have not yet had a reply. If someone else does the same on bikes and congestion charges then we can get an informed view.
I have searched everything I can find Boris has said in Parliament or in his various magazine columnes and can’t find anything he has said about motorcycles ever! Given the maount he has written and said about cyclist safety, the chances of getting bikes in bus lanes must be even lower with him in charge! He might be more of a libiterian, but he is so wedded to the cyclist lobby, and obsessed with cyclists beign involved in accidents if his record of Parliamentary Questions recorded in Hansard is anything to go by. I can’t see any of the three main candidates doing bikers any favours at all.
I find Boris a little bit like a clown too and can’t really see him in charge of the capital… but well we never know. I’ve written to his website to ask him about his views on motorbikes and scooters as his proposals do not mention them.
I think I may go for Ken I’m afraid because I can be confident that he will not charge motorcyclists in London. He’s a little weak on defending our rights to local councils I must admit but long-term exemption from the congestion charge is a crucial thing as far as I’m concerned.
The impression I get from my communications with TFL is that they are actually quite sympathetic to bikes but have trouble because of the strength of the cycle lobby and because on things like parking and bus lanes on non-TFL routes TFL has no powers whatsoever.
And those who control the non-TfL routes all cry “We’re looking to TfL for a lead”. Not the elected council folk, but their advisors, Who They Must Obey. Grrr…
I used to work with Boris, he is a good man, and not as much of a buffoon as people make him out to be… Although he has his moments, I think he is more logical than Ken in his views and arguements, but you have to be one-on-one with him to recognise this…
He likes to ride his pushbike everywhere, but then again he is also a bit of a petrol head, he used to test motors for a magazine, until he left a lotus elise he was testing and forgot where it was…

Great, but this doesn’t mean that he will support the use of motorbikes in London. If I don’t know his opinion on this subject, I will not vote for him. I will vote for one who support motorcyclists and so far, the only reliable one is Ken.
Well, what does he say about motorcycles? Nothing is mentioned about the congestion charge and motorcycles on his campaign website. His proposals are very general and vague. He says he will cut down the cost of transport and improve the tube, but how is he going to fund this… answer on a postcard.
I don’t think he’s very credible. He won’t have my vote anyway.
