Irish or Scotch Whiskey?

Ok peep’s, here’s the big question… Which whiskey’s do you prefer, and why?

I ask this as I am onto my second bottle of the irish stuff (started with Bushmills and am now half way through the Jamesons!) and, although quite drunk, am still unable to sleep due to my current state of mind! I’ve just finished 2 month’s of hardcore working hours, almost non-stop, and am now wondering what everyone else drinks to wind down…

I’m not an alcoholic, as they go to meetings! :w00t:

Just interested in peoples preferences… :stuck_out_tongue:

RR

neither! they all make me yak

had a very bad experience with JD, downed half a litre when i was 13 and nearly had to be hospitalised. the smell to this day makes me heeve 12 years on!!!

Well, it looks like we’ll never be married! :w00t:

I drink JD by the pint, with nothing but ice! :stuck_out_tongue:

I rarely drink anything these days but if I had to have a preference it would be scotch…used to drink Jamesons but had a bad experience…but I’d rather have JD than scotch . Used to drink Canadian Club, Southern Comfort etc etc in my younger days, but I’ve had bad sessions on all of them which has then caused me to stop drinking them.

Used to drink Glayva and Drambui in my younger days.

Think I’m more partial to Scots stuff than Irish so I’ll tick that one.

To wind down…red wine. Its good for my legs as I have a lot of probs with them and was advised to drink it by the Doctor some years ago!

I kind of know what you mean. I went through a phase, when I was a teenager, where we would drink nothing but Southern Comfort. Then I went through the JD straight phase, although I never really got over that! :PNow, I still do the JD, but tend to lean more to the Irish stuff. Thinking about it though, I did spend two and a half years in Ulster before I left the Army! :stuck_out_tongue:

ere…ive got a full bottle of congnac ere and i dont know what to drink with it?

i got it as a pressent for breaking into an old ladies house when she locked her self out…

so what do you drink it with…i havent toutched it so quite keen to crack it open…

smiled:).

On it’s own, with a good cigar and some fantastic jazz…

more like Jazz mag knowing ol smiled

He’s a proper ex-squaddie, what more can I say?!?!?!?!?! :stuck_out_tongue:

ahh…good effort!!!

am gonna go down and twist the cap right now…might even get pissed.:D.

prob start talking ****** in about 20 mins…lol…god im such a cheap date:w00t:.

smiled:D.

Irish or Scotch ? either if your buying… but a good scotch if i am

I always prefered Scotch as i used to love a good 30-40 year old malt.

Single Malt Scotch whisky for me please. None of the blended stuff. I’ve done an evening recently comparing (yet again) Irish and Scotch single malts and the Scots do lead be a good margin in terms of body and flavour, that said, if I was given a bottle of decent whisky, regardless of region/nation I would drink it.

Add just a splash of spring water and take your time enjoying it. No ice, no chilled water, just at room temp and in a nice wide based tumbler.

I have a bottle of Canandian blended whisky, Royal Club or somesuch name, supposed to be the bees knees, so I’ll find out in a couple of weeks. Southern Comfort and suchlike ryes are drinkable and enjoyable for the right reasons, had lots of different types of whisky based liqueors like Drambuie, Glayva and so on. Please don’t confuse those with proper single malts! :D;)

Bushmills black label is not too bad for a blend. Personally I prefer a nice single malt and not too peaty.

Something like a nice 17 year old Balvenie for day to day - smmooooooottthhhhh

I’m off the spirits these days but reading this makes me want a rye and diet (coke). got a taste for it when i lived in canada. only mix cheap stuff though, i never understood how people could order a johnny walker black and coke. only thing that should be in a good scotch is scotch or perhaps a little water.

Too right, just a drop of water to get the flavours going. They invented Bells and Famous Grouse for the luddites to add mixers to.

I’m a big fan of the peaty Islay malts myself, esp Lagavulin. Talisker’s a nice wee snifter as well, not quite as pungent as Lagavulin but still plenty of character. Both great late night nippie sweeties

I do like a good highland malt , but Irish malts are nice too.

Also like bourbon, but it does make me punchy if I have too many :ermm:

Wow! For all those that like a single malt, give Laphroaig a try, it has it’s own distinctive peaty flavour and tastes like no other single. Both the 10 and 15 year old are recommended. If you try it you wont want no other;)
