How do I pick my first LB rideout?

I’d go for one of Tim’s - if you feel you want to go faster afterwards try something else but it’s easier to be out for a pootle and well within your limits than trying to keep up and ending up in a hedge!

My recommendation would be to choose one of the well organised ride-outs using the cornerman system, that is well reputed, and starts somewhere convenient for you. These rides, including mine, do cater for all abilities, fast or slow, big bike or small, with the exception of L-platers.

As someone else has said here, PM the organiser of one you’re interested in, find out some more details so that you can ascertain whether it will suit you. Then meet up and enjoy yourself…and make some new friends. Simples.

Byddai i awgrymu eich bod yn dod ar un o fy rideouts a chael yr hyfforddiant sydd ei angen cyn dilyn y rhain o gwmpas hooligans

Can Steve translate that

“I would suggest you find one of my rideouts and get the training needed before following these hooligans around” is what google translate says…

Never trust anyone who insists on speaking a foreign language that no one else understands. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think you should come on a Jetstream ride out because then you get to be part of the Jetset. We visit sites of historical signifigance and stop for tea and cake. Plus it’s the most fun ever. Super Sunday can start to make the rest of your week feel totally rubbish…but I digress.

Or never trust a Taff :stuck_out_tongue:

Gotta be some incoming from that one.

On any rideout, just remember, ride in your comfort zone

my first (and only so far) was a dunstable downs one by ride4fun.
twas great, even though i was the only 33bhp person there (and had been riding 2 years, 1 on a big bike)

As others have said what ever ride out you decide to go on you will be well looked after, my first one was with flats to hunstaton and it turned into a monsoon but there was always someone waiting at the corner to mark it and the tailgunner (baby polar bear?) never tried to pressure me into speeding up out of my comfort zone

Hey Nadine,

I would definitely recommend TimR for ride outs. I also have a sv650 and have been riding for 3 years. I wasn’t sure which ride out to go on so I started with TimR 's 125 friendly and have now been on a few rides which have been great.

Not only a good paced ride for newbies but a great bunch of people can be met along the way. I’ll be going on the next one so if you fancy tagging along there’s usually a few of us biker chicks.

Shelley

the first one i went on was one of craigs, i was on a restricted bike at that time too, managed to keep up though

Fast or slow, no one should get left behind on a well-run ride-out.

I’ve been on others on here, and the only one I wouldn’t recommend to anyone is the BCR…it’s had lots of accidents because it’s like a race.

Well as an organiser of rides … i would say mine mine mine But it all depends on what your after …

As said a good rideout caters for all attending and as with life things do go wrong people have incidents

( even i lost that coveted no incident claim (SERRISAN & JAMIE ) not too long ago )

People do get lost if The marking system goes wrong …

It is up to you as an attendee to do your best to make it a good ride for all as well by

Riding to your own pace and for yourself but with consideration to those around you

Understanding the marker system being used and stick to it …

So in Summary

My Rides tend to be at a pace suited for newer riders generally sticking to the relevant limits of either the road or the riders present , sometimes if the group are a more experienced group the pace can creep up but again if you stick to your own pace /comfort zone then you should be fine and other riders do understand so dont ever think you are holding others back …

Jetstreams … Their rides are generally long distance mile eaters … The riders are generally of a reasonable experience but Riders are aware of others peoples experience levels and the tailgunner is always going to be the last member so you will not be left behind …Their rides do rely a lot on the Marker system as they do not remain in a group for any prolonged periods. They are great leaders and make it seem so easy .

Right having never undertaken one but basing on my own observations and others reports … BCR … Is a very technical road network and the group ride these roads often and for a long time so a lot of local knowledge comes into play but again they stress that you ride at your own pace and it seems that the majority of incidents are when people push that little bit harder than they should but even some of the more exeprienced members have had moments. The pace is brisk from what i gather but because it is a high police presence area speed limits are observed.

Ride4fun i cannot comment on your rides as only info i see is from the reports

And from what i can gather organisers of the above rides are in a good position to look after yourself and other riders througout the day …

Some are

First bike on scene trained

emergency service members

and from other professions/organisations that are relevant

Hopefully noone takes offence to my above descriptions … as tehy are my observations

But MINE MINE MINE :stuck_out_tongue: http://londonbikers.com/forums/Topic833892-52-1.aspx

All depends…on how fit you are?

If you are a “Kournakova” sort, feel free to tag on when you see my name down. If you are more Serena Williamsesqe, suggest you stick to riding with fellow ugly buglies…Smiled, Rioting Rob will be sure to help out :P.

BL

Hello everyone,
Jonesy here again.

I would just like to point out that, from what i have seen on their last Wales weekend, London Bikers are some of the most talented, considerate, respectful, fashionable l riders I have ever witnessed. And i really have see some twatish riders during my time on duty over 14 years. I have yet to join them on a ride to refresh my skills but am looking forward to it. But I am in Wales so it wont be easy. However, reading on the fine forum of London Bikers it seems that I would not be the only one not to turn up.

Whichever London Bikers ride you join, you should be well looked after. But dont chew more than you can bite off, my friends, gently does it. If you feel additional support, perhaps there may be opportunities to do some advanced training with RoSPA, which is better than the IAM because the latter all ride around with big aluminium boxes on their bikes. Full of cake usually. So they cannot go up the narrow lanes and paths into the woods where all sorts of animals and other people lurk, looking for similar experiences. The IAM also wear hi-vizzes and they scare off sheep.

Seriously, everyone on the London Bikers ride in Wales enjoyed themselves and no-one could ever have got lost in a million years because the corner making was exemplary.

Shiny side up my friends

Jonesy

Dear Nadine

Ignore the man above, he has clearly spent too long online in the “library” today.

The main thing is pick a nice day & go for a rideout that takes your fancy before the summer disappears. We are very lucky - LB has so many rideouts going on this year, for varied tastes. Some forums do one a year. Strike when the weather looks good.

It’s true that the Jetstream rides on Sundays are long - purely because we don’t plan them for anyone else, we are going for a long & scenic day out anyway, whether anyone wants to join us or not:D Unless specified they are not suitable for learners or 125s because of the possible use of motorways and distances involved.

TimR does very good rideouts, we have joined a few and always enjoyed them, he often aims them for less experienced riders and will always say if they are or not.

Similarly Ride4fun Dunstable Downs rides are very good, (although we can’t often go as they are on Saturdays).

We have had a fun time on the BCR too - early morning, but so is the Sparrows fart which Pouty posts - depends how early you want to get up:w00t:

Ang & Mark lead fantastic rideouts for weekends in Wales but we’ve also been out with them on very good day rides with them leading as a team. Can’t comment on the Friday night runs as we haven’t tried one - again not suitable timing for us.

But, almost every weekend if you look carefully there are others, people just getting together, Zander, Bikergirl400, Chips, anyone who wants to, just putting up rides and getting on with it.

Don’t worry if you don’t know anyone going, others on the ride will be in the same boat and everyone is very friendly.

The main thing is not to wait too long - fair weather is short & sweet, just go for it, you can always turn round & go home if you don’t enjoy it, just wave and let someone know so long as you’re being the cornerman at the time!Edit: Anyone going on their first rideout should read this first:http://londonbikers.com/forums/Topic435756-52-1.aspx

have you been out with us on a bcr yet?

Yes I have. It was a few years ago, now, so maybe it’s not an everybody for themselves event anymore. And watching someone have an accident with a car and just ride off was appalling (it wasn’t the driver’s fault)…motorcyclists seem to often slate motorists, but some riders are no better, if not worse. :frowning:
