Help to recover bike

Yup buggered it proper… but it’s worrying me that the docs at the A&E said it wouldn’t need an op… :frowning:

got bupa through work so waiting to see if I am in cheltenham or here next week to see a specialist

You haven’t met FB Paul you have not lived  He is the cheerful LBer who works in HG Stockwell - always gives a friendly hug, discounted gear and is extremely helpful - as has been proved once again with S’s bike (although it seems he has not gone so far as to fix the collarbone though :frowning: )

I’ve some of experience with broken collar bones, and smashed ones. If you’ve got any questions about treatments being suggested to you bung me a pm. Heal up soon. FWIW my RHS collar bone is completely separated, I opted for no operation after seeing a very good sports physio. I’ve broken and separated the same one twice and have a friend whose ended up in little bits.

yeah i’m going to see what the consultant from bupa says then may need to track down an independent sports injury dr or sth similar?

the guy i saw from bupa was great, he even suggested i try the physio first before he operated. operations can cause restriction of movement.

ask about lasers… wonder if your insurance covers that.

got your full name off your x-ray… now i can FB stalk you

tbh, i never knew you were they guy i have chatted to with gavin until just now…

You need Brian Simpson in Ipswich.

But don’t take my word for it, just ask any bike racer, when it comes to broken collar bones, this guy is The Man!

Location is going to be an issue with that… But if he’s that good it might be worth it

Sorry to hear of the off. Hope you get it sorted. These days they usually wire these. A small incision and a quick heal. Leaving them is very last century.

+1 isn’t he the guy that fixed charley boormans collarbone in super quick time for race to dakar…the racees swear by him

I wonder how much he charges

Let’s see if I can get bupa to pay for him… they probably won’t agree because of the location and I’d like to get someone to see it this week just to get an initial idea of what’s to come.

According to his web page BUPA will pay his fees if you get a GP referral letter, doubt they’ll cover transport costs though.

I know a couple of racers that have used him for collarbones & wouldn’t go anywhere else even though both live in SW England.

Ah this is good

Might have to pay myself for the initial consultation… will have to weigh things up because I don’t have anyone who can get me there and it will be very expensive all the trips there

Anyway, my priority is to at least see the specialist I’m scheduled to see on Wednesday to get some initial advice.

Got my GP appointment on Tuesday - my gp is in Cheltenham so I’m doing it all there

Its Anita…I dont want to log Mike out as he probably wont remember his log in details.

Mike raves about Brian Simpson and I ended up going to meet him when doing my Masters. I doubt BUPA could cover you going to see someone if you said he was going to “zap you back together” but they would cover the cost of seeing him as a physiotherapist (and then its up to Brian what treatment modalities he wants to offer you).

Or you could go to a hyperbaric unit as lots of racers use that to improve fracture healing (Brian has one of them too). Think its about £200 for a pretty lengthy appointment in Ipswich but dont quote me. Mike saw him when he fractured his collar bone racing a few years back and said that he walked out being up to pick up a bag…and I can usually tell when he’s talking crap!!

If you want to see a surgeon (bearing in mind that they often dont recommend surgery for this fracture), I would recommend Mr Carlos Cobiella for shoulder stuff. Excellent orthopaedic surgeon. I took Mike to see him and Mike was operated on within days…but he had a grade 5 ACJ dislocation (ie his arm was almost just hanging on by blood vessels and nerves!). In the end Mike was operated on by Mr Marcus Lee because Carlos was examining on my MSc that day!

Either surgeon would be really good to see. Too many private orthopaedic surgeons do big procedures just to make a bit of money when conservative management is often the best plan…so its worth checking who you are going to see. Also there are physiotherapists who dont really like ‘rehabbing’ shoulders but with BUPA it can be hard to find out when you are going to one of their centres. I would pick a physio that likes shoulders and tell BUPA you want to see them. Or I can recommend a really good osteopath from my MSc who likes shoulders.

Oh and I am sorry to hear about your off

PM if you need any advice (Nonsense)

GWS soon mate

Oh crap bad news, sorry just seen this, the office is not far from there could park in there for you, if not sorted…PM if you haven’t had it picked up?

Hope it heals quickly!

Bike has been recovered to Serrisans place. Roughly £100 of damage
Won’t even bother insurance
It’s fine. Will upload a couple pics later

Ouch, keep popping the pills Alex

That’s going to take some time to mend

well i’m sorry to say, that crash bung finally gave up! it was buggering me for some time, infact every time i saw Alex at the OMC i had to ask ‘are you gonna replace that anytime soon?’

now he has to!

glad to see that the damage to the bike is minimal.
