Gosh, I’m very glad that you’ve been able to walk (okay, stagger!) away from that one.
And you’re absolutely correct - however much one plans ahead, however high one’s situational awareness and road and riding skills, a random nutter manoeuver like this fool made is impossible to counter every time, and all of us one day, like you, could find ourselves on the wrong side of the risk equation.
I certainly hope that the driver - what a total and utter scumbag - has every possible book thrown at him and bravo for all the people involved in collaring him and looking after you.
I’m grateful that you’ve shown us the pounding that your kit has taken - the fact that you have not suffered any serious injury speaks volumes for the value of proper protection and, I hope, may change one or two minds when it comes to the perennial discussion on riding in a t-shirt.

Good to hear you’re ok. Cuts, burns, and bruises hurt, but they heal. Shame about all the work you have put into your bike. 
But you are alive and still with us, THAT is the most important thing, well that and the nail gun they will hopefully be using to attached the scums ball bag to a wall with.
