Goodbye London... How long is your commute?

Well, after 8 years of living in London, I move to Northampton tomorrow.

I will be riding the M1 to London every day (great time of year to start the commute!) and am already really looking forward to the summer weather to arrive!

So how far do other people ride every day?

My commute will be about 60 miles each way - I’ve tried it a couple of times and it’s not too bad. If I lived in NE London, the tube to Marylebone would probably take as long plus I get the benefit of not living in NE London

WOW Ben thats brave, i dont know if I would start a 60 mile commute in Nov!!

good luck! will it be on the bike or in a car? not sure how youe wife agreed with biking up/down the M1!

ps my commute at the mo is ~10miles

Currently, my commute is an embarrasingly short 4.5 miles. Never mind the bike, I should probably walk it instead:)

That is pretty brave.

I do 30 miles each way - 3 or 4 days a week in the car, 1 or 2 on the bike. Part of the journey is J16 to 11 of the M25 and it is starting wear me down:(

15miles each way…I used to cycle it, but I can’t seem to be bothered now, what with el bandito just sitting there!

My commute is about 250 yards - 5 minute walk or a 1 minute ride

35miles each way - best part of my day!

I know another SV rider commutes from Portsmouth!

If im going to/ from home its 13 miles, if im staying with my girlfriend its 40 or so miles from Chelmsford!.. Not too bad to be honest, assuming the weather is ok and the traffic isnt solid all the way!

10 odd miles each way for me, I could use the pushbike (I used to) but I really can’t be bothered as the new offices don’t have showers…

15 mins by bike or 20 by car, country lanes with an A road in the middle.

At the moment i do 20 miles each way which takes me about 30 mins into Knightsbridge, but tonight it took me 1 hour 15mins, the traffic up the Finchley road was full of couches.

My commute is 6 miles, should be 20-30 mins top but can get longer when going into Central during rush hour…which is almost all the time except after 11pm in the evening :stuck_out_tongue:

It used to be 11.7 miles, now 6.2, I can wake up half 9 and still be on time at work

NE LONDON…???

its east!

you are brave doing a 60 mile commute in this weather!

my commute is from…ahem…east london, to islington so not far at all! 20mins? 15 if im a hooligan!

3 miles =5 mins in the car

3 miles =15 mins on the bike !!!

Takes me 10 mins to uncover, unlock the bike, quicker an easier to use the car )

Mine is about 12 miles per day, its not too bad, i can do it on the bike in 20 minutes, coming home it takes a bit longer!

Bloody hell,120 mile round trip…i’d love it in the summer!

I do a 12.7 mile trip which is normally 25min ish, a guy who works at our place drives the same way but a mile longer he takes anything from 45mins to 2 HOURS (that was a BAD day on the A13 :D)

I claim the shortest so far - started working at home a couple of years ago, so downstairs and start work it is. Out on the bike anytime I please.

Good luck with it.

I moved just out of London and my commute changed from 7.5 miles to 26 each way. I have to use the M1 as well, but fortunately, I only use the bit after the roadworks (J6-J10). You’re in for a nasty time at those junctions, and I’m afraid the work has another year or two to go :frowning: The roadworks are governed by some SPECS cameras which you don’t have to worry about on a bike, but the problem is that the other drivers around you go a bit crazy in that section and start switching lanes like nutters.
