Goodbye London... How long is your commute?

Currently 16 miles Enfield to Vauxhall, but my house is up for sale and I’m moving to Chelmsford which is a bit over 35 miles. Strangely, it only takes me about 15 minutes more from there.

Well, this morning was my first early start to get into the office from Northampton.

It wasn’t too bad, to be honest. I have the right winter gear (although this morning was very mild, in all fairness), I chose the contraflow lane through the M1 roadworks and it was running like a dream. Even the A5 into central London was quite clear this morning.

So far so good…

how long did it take you? what time did you leave??

oh ! and good luck on the way back

Erm from home it’s 5 miles. But from random places I stay it’s anything from 23 miles from Central London, which heading out of town I usually do in around 30 minutes or less  I have gone into work from 130 miles away before, and still made it on time (yes she was worth it… at the time at least  )

Unfortunately snarled on occasion by slow arse cagers

Good Luck

I used to commute from milton keynes to london every day for two years.

took a while to get used to, but after a few weeks became like any comute normal.

The winters are a bit tough

good luck with it

Same here, I live above my shop.

Sometimes wish I didn’t as I could use the bike more

I would always chose 2 lanes rather than one because you can filter.

same as me i used to do MK to london and when the one laner is blocked you cant get thoughmy travel is now 25 miles each way knebworth to north london

I commute from London to Rayleigh around 50 miles each way. I am fed up of this and therefore I will look for another job.

12.5 miles for me from Croydon to the West End. Strangely the journey always seems to take no more than 46 minutes and never less than 36 minutes. Seeing as there are about 50 sets of traffic lights on the way that’s not actually so bad.

A tricky choice to make each morning, I know. I chose the 2 lanes option the other day and it was a total nightmare!M1 ROADWORKS TIP… now the lane expansion has moved south to J10-J4, the contraflow heading south actually bi-passes the M25 junction. This means that if you get in the contraflow lane you HAVE to head south of the M25 and into London. Less cars are therefore using the contraflow and it is now the best option every single time. And this is coming from someone who has always chosen the 2 lane option on contraflows because (traditionally) they are always more free flowing.Amazing, I know, but I welcome anyone to try it and prove me different!

Your up near me in Bedford

I ride between 62 and 65 miles depending on if i use the M1 or the A1 to go home, it take about and hour and half to two hours to get to whitechapel leaving at about half five in the morning

Going to be a windy ride home this evening

I take the back roads from junc 12 to hemel naff all on it and recently resurfaced, niiiiiice for a blast 15-20 mins beats the motorway everytime.

What job is worth a 2 hour commute each way?

I used to do 22 miles across London from East to West, some of the most crazy and dangerous driving I’ve ever had to do, taking me about an hour each way. Then I had 30 miles each way from Bucks to Hillingdon. That was a doddle (about 45 minutes, or exactly 30 during the day). Now I have 0 miles, since I work from home :D. Mind you, I did do a 12 hour day, 260 miles, to Poole then central London and back the other week. Thank fark I don’t have to do that every day.

All that motorway riding must drive you nuts? What bike do you have?
