Got a flat tyre on the M11 …the AA send some other company…the guy put 2 straps on the handle and put the bike on the trailer. I knew it would not be enough to hold the bike but the guy said thats all the trap he has and he did not put the 3rd strap properly. He was chatting all the way about this and that seem like good guy. When we got near the garage may be 100 yards the ******* strap gives and the bike falls on the side. The guy was all sorry so I let it go but it scratched my bike and cracked the back faring. The guy said he will be in trouble so I let him off. I dont know if I did right thing or not?
If it were me, I would deffo report him and make a claim. He does this for a living and should have known better. Just wonder how many other bikes he has damaged…?
I would think that part of his job was to look after customers bikes,which he didn,t do in your case.Although I would not want to get the guy in trouble,I would not be happy to forget this and would want my bike fixed at the AA,s expense.Could end up being an expensive puncture.
Your contract is with AA not that operative. Take photos and get the damage costed. Send the photos and a claim for the damages to AA stating that the damage was caused by the operative not being properly equipped.trained for the job. Also say that the operative told you he would be victimised for this failing by the employer if you made a claim. Make it clear this is AA’s problem and you will be seeking restitution through the small claims court unless they pay up.
you use your bike for a living right? do you really want to be riding around with it damaged even if it is a small issue??? i don’t get why you would just drop that unless you don’t mind the couple hundred you have to pay personally to have it repaired. you’re bonkers right!
i have to agree with them chap, cant see why you’d let a thing like that go? I salute your humanity but if the guy had any bo*)%ks he would take it on the chin…
The guy was crying about his job and he has 3 kids. I gave my word that I wont tell AA. But now when I saw damage again…I am not very happy now…
He’s unlikely to get sacked because one bike fell over, you don’t have to tell the AA that he didn’t use enough straps, just say you were recovered and the bike fell over and you’d like them to pay for the damage.
I’m sure they’re insured against stuff like that. They should be anyway.
When I have been recovered before, they made me sign a before and after checklist for scratches etc. It may be difficult now to proove the damage wasn’t there before. I’d still report it though.

report it, why should you have to ride a damaged bike ? if you ordered a pizza and it turned up all mashed would you complain…I think you would, so have a hissy fit spit the dummy whatever just CLAIM ffs 
I see why you wouldn’t want the guy to get in trouble… but he hurt your bike. If someone crashed into you you’d still expect them to either to pay for repairs or claim off their insurance, even if you do like the person.
Besides, might make the guy a little more careful next time

I had the same thing happen to mine and i claimed off the AA.Now for a bit of info I was a power lift instructor for the AA many years ago, back in the days when the people that were driving them where AA Patrols and underwent extenstive training, nowdays they are agnecy drivers that have had 2 hours on how to load a bike, they have no idea how to strap down the bike.
when this happend to me i asked the guy was he sure that the staps would hold, but all i got was a what do you know stare.
they will settle this very quickly so try not to worry just drop them an email Also if the guy as not reported this to base he will be dismissed when you report it.
The same thing happened to me 2 years ago the aa fixed it very quick with no fuss why should you have to cover the cost
My mates car was damaged coming off an RAC truck, caused £1k worth of damage, he took pics etc and they paid for it to be fixed - they didnt really contest it either but if you havent got pics and the drivers then turns around and says he knows nothing about it, you might have a bit of a job convincing them.
