Filtering to the Front of the Traffic

For Gawd’s sake! So there I am, having filtered to the front I pull as far forward as possible to let other bikers around to the front too and not leave them stranded and queueing down the side of the traffic. So what happens a large percentage of the time? The first bloke comes up behind me and plugs the gap I have left behind me - thus defeating the whole object of allowing as many of us to the front of the waiting queue as possible.

Is this down to inexperience - or some riders being a bit dense??

Likewise, some riders refuse to pull around to the front (if there is room) when they are first in the queue, and leave the rest us forming a queue along side the traffic. A quick press of the horn sometimes works here.

It ain’t rocket science…

Some riders won’t cross the solid white line or pull into the green cycle box due to getting a PCN.

Has anyone actually got a PCN for using the greenbox on a side note ?

My IAM training taught me to filter all the way through and then stop behind the first car. I alsoe believe its illegal to cross the white line, entering the red cycle zone and crossing the line is frownd upon strongly by the law.

Yep, in the cab when I was a London cabbie, I also got one for the cab front wheel being 6" over the white line.

Issued by the police or retro-actively on a cam ?

Big brother for the front wheel being 6" over and bike plod for being half way inside a cycle box.

And being a London cabbie all fines are doubled!

yeah same. if you filter up to a pedestrian crossing with zig zags, overtaking the lot is a no no, but overtaking everything but the first car is ok

Just a small point, the cycle bit is green isnt it Lewis? If I cant get on it its usually because there is a bus/4x4/addison lee minicab on it. Or maybe even a bicycle - on hold on, they dont wait do they…

Hmm , heard they could do you for it , but u are the first I have head actually having it done !

****** , have to keep an eye out !

Was it any particular borough ?

Lambeth, here’s the best PCN I ever got:

Picked up a wheelchair user from the OXO tower, he asked to be dropped in a disabled vehicle area, it was raining and as the cab had a wheelchair ramp I thought it was classed as such, dropped the guy off and a week later got a PCN for entering the disabled area, I disputed the PCN but a court ruled I should of dropped the wheelchair user in the rain 50 meters from his door! nice.

green, red, blue, yellow, pink, purple. I dont think colour is the issue here! :hehe::D:hehe:

I totally agree so annoying when you move over then the person behind just blocks them off. WHo filters to the front and stops short of the first car at a traffic light ? they must be very rare cause I cant remember seeing any bikes doing that.

I try and move over to let other bikes through at the front, and the only time I drop in behind the lead vehicle is if:

a) Bike has blocked my way
b) It’s a lorry and you’d be sitting in their blind spot should you stall or somthing.

Filtering is perfectly legal as long as you dont overtake the front vehicle (according to the cops on bikesafe)

and crossing the stop line can get you 3 points i believe

where we live the cycle bit is red

i always stop in the cycle boxes because on my road tax and log book its called a bicycle so i thought it was for us too

Been filtering to be in front of the lead vehicle for decades. Have not been nicked yet…

Cue the kiss of death on that one!
