Dropped my bike

When I bought it everybody said I’d drop it at least once . . . but I thought how do you drop a bike ? Couldn’t see it happening unless the ground moved :w00t:

Happened this evening, pulled up outside a cash point and put my left foot down, boot somehow got caught on the footpeg (still not sure how) and I lost balance and the bike fell to the right with me on it, the footpeg cutting a rip in my left boot.

Managed to stop too much damage by keeping my leg under it but the mirror, bar end, rear peg and crash bung are now scratched.

Felt a right plank still sitting on the bike in a horizontal position looking like I was still riding it :crying: :ermm: I guess it could be worse, I could have two bikes that look like the Triumph :w00t:

I know the feeling-just bought my bike and proudly rode it home, pulled up on my drive and then decided to go out for a bit longer-my left foot slipped on some gravel and I started to go-thats a terible moment when you know its inevitable!! I somehow managed to put most of my rather large torso between the bike and the ground to cushion it but then found I couldn’t move! So I had to call my wife out with as much dignity as I could muster and get her to help pull it off. Got rid of the gravel after that…

It`s easyly done, i dropped my bike taking off the centre stand and as it came off the bike went down the camber of the kerb and down went bike and me.

i must say that even i have done that, i felt sick after!

what was that comment about the triumphs?? has it done alot of damage to the fairing?

unlucky diude, we have all been there!! Glad to see not too much damage, not enough to join mine and eric’s road rash crew at least :w00t:

unlucky :frowning:

Sadly it was in the middle of Sainsbury’s car park. There was a distinct look of surprise on your face as the realisation went through your mind! At least nobody laughed.

I’ve done it twice now, once outside my old house having gotten a shoelace caught on the “hero peg” (I’m going to have to learn to corner low enough to take them off).

The other time was turning around in a small road and I stupidly grabbed the front brake because I was too close to the curb. I still don’t know why I did that. It was only made worse by the hissy fit I threw afterwards

I really must get some crash bungs…

Sorry to hear you dropped the bike. Been there and done that! Sounds like the damage is not as bad as it could have been…

Unlucky fella,

I’ve not done it yet touches all the wood in sight

My brother nearly did slipping on a forecourt over the weekend.

well i shouldn’t have read this post today!

go out for a ride to practice turns at slow speeds get the wobble on and smash the bloody right mirror off!

Grrrrr! very angry at myself!

so i won’t be riding in tomorrow for BM i’ll be walking as i’m guessing 1 mirror is illegal?! hmm was looking forward to the ride

DOH!

Rana Sorry to hear that, did you drop it or just hit the mirror on something solid.Got to keep on practicing though, only way to get it right. With regards the mirrors,I think legally you’re fine,it just reduces your rear vision

Rana, in an odd way it’s good to do a little damage, I was getting paranid about scratching it etc which isn’t good, feel a bit more relaxed now. Sorry you’ve done damage to yours, as long as you get to BM tomorrow  Is it just the mirror or has it damaged the fairing too ?

I always thought that the mirrors weren’t a legal requirement.

sorry to hear about your drop steve!!:frowning:

just the mirror - has left the stub bit on the bike. so grateful for mushrooms - haven’t scratched any of the paintwork fairings.

i did give myself a proper telling off.

I will see about riding in tomorrow - first time in to town kinda would of liked 2 mirrors

live and learn! Don’t look at the GROUND!!

Whoops :frowning:

:w00t:

Same here fella…brand new black 05 R6…scream up to the lights…hot looking filly in a convertable mini coop…boot gets caught…barro…spread out like a bucket of water and said girl drives orf laughing her pants off !!!

Quality !!

You got to laff or ya cry !!!

I reckon most if not all of us have done it. I dropped my bike before I’d even sat on the bleedin’ thing - taking it down off the trailer, off-balance, over it goes. My pride was damaged the most, and it’s been horizontal a few other times too (disk-lock fright, dodgy u-turn, pushing it backwards round a corner down a hill - it was never going to stay upright then!) but fortunately not while I’ve actually been riding at any kind of speed.

Now that you’ve ‘broken it in’ you might be able to relax and enjoy the riding rather than worrying about not scratching it, and at least it’s not officially ‘lived in’.

This morning - parked in a bike bay near Marylebone Station. Put my foot down in completely the wrong place and felt the bike start to lean to the left!

God only knows how, but in slow motion I managed to swing my right leg over, hit the kill switch and gently lower the bike to the ground!

No damage that I can see (except a massive bruise on the ego). A very very kind man (who’s expertise in helping lift a bike and knowledge of dropping them means he has to be a biker) was the only person who saw it, I think (hope). And he didn’t laugh or point at me.

This is like therapy… I feel better now I’ve shared it with someone!
