I slosh WD40 over loadsa grime…great for cleaning wheels, gooey crud on fairing undersides, fiddly bits and even the chain when the budget is tight and the baby needs a clean - works wonders and I swar by it!
Spent 3 hours with a tin, a bucket and a toothbrush yesterday and as Iprepare to leave work I feel like taking a couple of wing mirrors with me to makeup for the pain of getting her all minging again. Balls.
My routine is:
(Bung your exhaust up with a bag ) soak the bike with lots of cold water,
(hot water will activate the salt faster)
Spray all the shity parts with muck off, agitate with your brushes.
Rinse again with cold water.
Then get some warm soapy water (not washing up liquid!!) and give the whole
bike a good going over with your soapy sponge.
Rinse again with lots n lots of cold water.
Give the bike a good going over with the leather.
Then flick your levers in & out, side stand up & down etc to get any excess
water out.
Let the bike run for a while now, to evaporate any moisture on the
engine/exhaust etc
Apply 2 or 3 coats of polish (meguiars gold class is very good)
Apply ACF 50 to all your metal parts, spray into your switches to drive out
moisture from electrical parts, wipe it over your wheels etc
Now lube your chain up (i use scottoiler oil) let this penitrate overnight
then coat with a chain wax to seal (stops most of the fling)
Now stand back and admire your gleaming machine
Sounds really professional neil! What about an LB bike wash? lol
Muc Off is amazing, but…we now stock a similar product called Moto Xtreeme which a milder version which is safer to use on alloys than muc off, and it cleans just as well. My top tip for cleaning is
1 Find a homeless person/ Drunks are good too if your in an affluent are
2 wave a £5/ Bottle of White Lightning in front of them
3 Stand back and watch as the do the best job in the world
Thanks Neil will do something along thoses lines as soon as the rain stops, maybe cross your method with BabyJ’s homeless advice
what ya say wd40 gets rid of the gunk and crap on chain and around that area
what about on ya back wheel with all the oil from of the chain?
i used muc-off and it got most off but not the stuburn stuff i scrubbed fo ages with a brush and dont seem to do anything even neat! dont know whether im using it right but how hard can it be!
ive got silver wheels as well so i dont think that helps either
Cezar, it could be my way to riches, profesional bike valeter… to the stars
Corona, use some petrol on a cloth to get the stuburn stains off your wheels, but make sure you wash as soon as the stain is off. Don’t pour it on the rim, just soak a bit into a cloth then rub each stain with the cloth over your finger mate.
Neil,
You must spend more time cleaning your bike then riding her.
I prefer James’s method.
Dan
hehehe, can’t help myself, it’s the ex militery in me, anybody else just would’nt do a good enough job. LOL.
However if you had some naked women who wanted to do it, well i may be swayed
I know we’ve been here before, but this is a fine chance to look at these car/bike washing (pair of) tips.
get some other flubber to do it!!!
Corona - I find the WD-40 does the business on the wheel as well, usually give it a spray and smear the whole wheel with it, wipe off with a soapy sponge and a bit of a rub, then again if neccessary. Doesnt take much of a scrub and brings em up an absolue treat with a bit of polish to top it off! Yum…always find that a bit of extra effort on the wheelss makes all the difference.
Self portrait Neil?
Wish i could say yes…
Oh Neil…
Too early in the morning for that kind of munter!
nice one j unit ill have to give it go next time i wash the baby thats the only thing what dont never come up spotless
how about around ya chain on the swingarm and rear hugger?
