cook yours? I like mine running but not snotty…they’ve all been snotty lately, what am I doing wrong
lol what are you on!? ok ok i prefer mine soft but not runny myself… reckon youre undercooking em
have you moved to a higher altitude?!
funny enough i"v just boiled eggs, boil for few mins until hard, run under cold tap for 5 mins, easy peel shells
eerrr eggs are hard anyway aren’t they?
When times are hard save precious fuel by boiling egg for 2 minutes and leaving to stand in boiled water for a further 5 mins. What’s the worst that could happen… apart from salmonella?
Did you use an egg-timer? They do work:)
The key to perfect soft boiled eggs is to boil them for 3 minutes, but don’t start timing until the eggs start to bounce off the bottom of the pan - when you hear that, start timing.
If you are doing 2 eggs, take the first one out after 2:30 but eat it last - it will keep cooking from the internal heat - won’t be soft soft, but won’t be rock hard either
(Elad - I feel that after posting this, I should apologise for the Jamie Oliver comment about the pancakes :D)
if you really dont like cooking, get one of those temp sensitive timers you put in with the eggs in the pan; that will tell you exactly when to take them out
works a charm every time strangely enough
oh and snotty eggs are great
Just to add mine
put em in for 4 mins once the water is boiling, make sure you put the toast on aswell, gives u enough time to butter. I find 3 eggs is best
Prefer them scrambled really. Nicer to eat & you can see what is going on with them without the shell getting in the way:)
It’s a friggin egg. What’s so hard about boiling one? Like all cooking, it’s a bit of practice.
What no one has mentioned so far is take it out of the fridge at least half an hour before you cook it to let is get to room temperature. Do that and the shell is far less likely to crack in boilng water and the middle will be cooked slightly runny to match the no snot white once you’ve sorted the timing.
Now the big question. Into boiling water or into cold water and bring to the boil?
Fridge? WTF do you keep eggs in the fridge? They don’t keep them chilled in the supermarket, they have their own internal impermiable membrane. Eggs kept in the fridge do not cook so well, or taste so nice.
Dont keep the eggs in the fridge love and also the cooking time changes depending on how fresh they are. In london, i have to cook the eggs for 3 n half minutes if i want them soft, but for 4 nhalf minutes if Im using the eggs from the chickens in my mums garden…
You gotta put em into boiling water if you want a predictable cooking time otherwise the amount of water and heat it obviously going to have an effect.
I like a 5 min runny egg.
i keep them in the fridge, its what the egg compartment is for all you dopey people:D;)
boiling water, i never time mine and I never have hard or snotty eggs, I just take a look at the eggg take a guess then wait for about 4-5 minutes depending on size and smell and out she comes, very rarely wrong…and hardly ever get cracked shells but i do have a secret for that…
+1 Eggs shouldn’t be kept in the fridge.
The compartment in your fridge door is for the Cadburys Creme variety;)![]()
Hmm…fridge to boiling water without cracking the shells ?. You must run em under warm water first then ?
or…make a little hole in one end ?
perfect egg…pop in pan, start timing from water starting to boil, take out after 4mins crack and dunk yer soldiers:D Oh and i’ve never refridgerated eggs…but then i am lucky as i have chickens so always fresh;)
I don’t like the yokes, 6 of the båstards boiled hard and dump the yokes in the garden below for the dogs to fight over.
Thats because the supermarket is at a constant temperature below 20c and my kitchen fluctuates between freezing and near furnace like conditions , eggs apparently would be much happier at a stable temperature ![]()
