Black Visors

cool, so i can trust the offshore ones

i have a pinlock insert in my clear lens, its ok but to be honest i end up having the visor a bit open most of the time around town, the tab to keep it open ajar a bit isnt effective…so i might try a foggy breath guard

i do even if you ain’t riding like a ****…you don’t need to be to kill yourself or someone else by wearing a black visor.

Sure I will be corrected by those in the know if I am wrong, but a bike cop told me that if you get a ticket for using a dark visor during daylight hours, don’t except the FPN, go to court, as it will be thrown out every time. reason being, as this bike cop tells me, there IS NO written law relating to the use of dark visors while riding a motorcycle.

He may well have been pulling my chain:w00t: but that is what he said.

Personaly I use a dark visor in daylight but always carry a clear just in case the weather turns bad or I don’t get home before night fall.

And visorshop.com have been good for me for quite a few years now, never let me down:)

Sounds like someone needs to go back to training school…http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roads/vehicles/vssafety/motorcyclehelmetsvisorsandgo4563?page=3The visor is illegal if not within the boundaries of above…i wouldn’t risk a day in Court…

Cheaper to cough up than take a day off to go to court:hehe:

ACPO Policy and Motorcycle strategy quote:

‘Tinted visors, if used during daylight hours, advice only, if used during the hours of darkness or conditions of reduced visibility consider prosecution using ‘Tintman’ equipment where available.’

ooh tintman ive been done with one of those in my cage:hehe:

When i had a car tinted they said that very few police have the testing equipment. Is that still the case Del?

Every one of TVP’s trafpol bases has the kit…Darryl can elaborate more on the Metpol side of things Chunky…

Interested to know how many fatalities have been caused by someone wearing a tinted visor? On a lit London road at night time I cannot believe that my tinted visor is going to obstruct my vision enough to kill myself or others. Maybe on a dark country lane with no lights, I totally agree, But in London, or mabe my tinted visor is not as dark as what you are refering to.

One of the most important things about riding is being able to see as much as possible is it not? so why take the chance of wearing a tinted or black visor at night??

+1I am planning on going to BMM tonight and I know it will be a night time ride home. I have just this minute swapped over to my clear visor:)It’s hard enough riding in London as it is without making it even harder for yourself:cool:

well said & it also gives me more time to eat more custard donuts
seriously, kit yourself up safely-& ride safely.

Oh damn you!!! I want a custard doughnut now :hehe:

Prefer Krispy Crems myself.

Yeah…krispy kreme, chocolate covered, custard filled…this is dangerous, there is a krispy kreme shop in the station on my way home!!!

I’ve got the same lid, and I got a tinted visor for it from J and S in Greenwich. Not a black or Iridium but it’s enough to take the glare off the sun etc… I think it’s a 10% tint, and it’s made by Shoei.

Hope this helps mate,

RR:D

since we had a lovely taster of weather to come i’ve just invested in a black visor. i got it from racevisors.co.uk for £33 with a free visor bag so i can have my clear one with me. no shipping costs also:cool:

Thought I knew the answers to all of this…then someone raises the question of insurance.

I don t trust them not to pull a stunt and negate on the grounds of a coloured visor even in bright sunlight.

It’s a lot safer to wear a pair of decent graded shades under a clear visor and you have the, sort of, defence that thats what the guys on those funny coloured bike with yellow jackets do.

Apart from the image, what do the black visors do? Anything more than a Caberg with internal flip visor?

Olguy.
