BCW Walk the Walk information for the 15-16th May

Hello one and all… I’m down for all three shifts…looking forward to this!!

Ok gang, it’s getting close now and I just want know

** *Has anyone had official confirmation from the organisers about their monies paid, a note about what roles they’ll play and their timeslots? * **

Nope, nothing, nil, nitch, zip, nada, fuk all, quite frankly, I’m not too impressed!

Hi Guys

Although I was at the team leader meeting last night in the West End I couldn’t stay to the end for our one to one talk with the organizers. Mike will be in a better position to brief you all.

I will say that although the event is going ahead and our participation is very much involved, currently our role is not the same as we would be used to in previous years. We are still discussing to change this to a more ‘support’ roll however the route is be Marshalled quite differently that it has in the past.

Currently, if it goes ahead as it is set, we won’t be officially working until 6am to close. We will have a one mile section of route to cover for that duration. The rest of the route is being marshalled by other groups and teams (non bikers). the way I see it this is good for us. We can still turn up at 6pm on Saturday for the start of the event and then roam/ride freely with the walkers along the route stopping and parking up to cheer them on at a checkpoint and then mount up and move on to another one further down. We will then move to our official spot at 6am and Marshall that spot till close where we’ll ride back to Playtex City for the finish and closing ceremony.

Its different but no less fun than previous years. Having now seen the route, it would be imposable to Marshall on our own, little own with just 20 bikes…

I’m sure Mike will update you as the talks continue.

Chaz

I’m askin’.

Although, if we are only covering a mile is it worth having a pre-ride?

Hi All…Barro Txt =

There will be two pre rides (Dummy Runs) just to get to know the route as we will all be riding it all through the event(in rotation) and also there are going to be some areas marked out for closing off (all motor vehicles) plus we will need to find our parking areas for the duration and get to know our section (zone).

Two Pre Rides for those that cant make a particular day =

Topgooner will lead Saturdays Run.

Oodie will lead Sundays Run.

Both will post tonight with their personal choices of times and meeting points.

Got my pack up today…but only for the Sunday 6am start. Not to pleased to say the least. I paid £20 to take part in the whole event but now I’m only there for a third of it…bit out of order. I’ll still take part though.

I did post on the other thread http://londonbikers.com/forums/Topic665948-52-9.aspx after Panda’s entry but someone has deleted it!!! I have no issues with it being deleted but could the person who did it please have the decency to pm me about it!!

Anyway…I’ll still be doing it!!

This is strange, so Charlie? are you telling us that we dont HAVE to turn up from 6pm Saturday night if we dont want to, because we are not “officially” required until 6am sunday morning…but that if we WANT to turn up we can but will just be there to ride around all night like spare parts on bikes, if you like because they have “other groups and teams” doing what WE were told we would be required for in the first post?We all thought we were going to be marshalling the whole event therefore agreeing to give up our time and money (£20 dont forget!) I was trying to organize my own food etc for the weekend as i cant have wheat ie bread/rolls or burgers etc… I dont really fancy just riding around, parking up some place just to clap and nothing more, dont get me wrong, i applaud the walkers of course, but my intention was to actually be doing more to help than stand on the side watching…then moving up along the route…and waiting till 6am in the morning to actually DO something within our mile zone (a mile only ???)…this doesnt seem what i signed up for to be honest…

Me and Abbeyj have gone to a lot of trouble to try and get the bras sorted out as i said in my other post…we still have to buy the pink dye and actually dye these things for us all yet when they actually get to me (they are being posted from Morecombe) !!!

Im a tad upset with this now …

Hi Charly.

Do you know when we can get an official plan? No offense to anyone but it all seems a bit of hearsay now.

I do think this is a worthwhile cause but unfortunately as I have said from the start I cannot do the 6am to midday run. Please would someone clarify exactly what is happening?

Looks like we are only “officially” required from 6.30am on the sunday Kim as i got my pack today and im only required from then, same as you JJSorry folks i am now officially out of this. Im not blaming anyone but the organizers of Moonwalk for not coming forward with the right information to Barro, who in turn was trying to let us know as much as he could on what he was told. I really am peed off with this and im really upset that i had made arrangements for cakes to be made and someone turn up later in the evening to give to us all (well you all cos i cant have em less wheatfree), i had a van lined up with my company so that if anyone wanted to sleep for a hour or so it would be possible, i had arranged for all the bras to be delivered to my home so that me and kim could begin dyeing them pink for all of us, i had booked monday off work, and of course ive paid £20 like the rest of us, (well no more really as ive now cancelled my cheque) plus id put up posters referring to this and asking for volunteers at work and on another forum and now im calling them to let them know they will only be required from 6am and only to marshall a zone consisting of a mile, its up to them if they decide to go but doubt they will. The whole idea of this, for me was to be involved with a lot more of this event regarding the marshalling, we are not even required on our bikes, as they have their own marshalls on foot !! This smacks of the last one we did when we were told we were not required to do what we had signed up to do…and so ended up riding around in a pack…Im gutted that i cant do what i thought i would be doing, and im not willing to go on saturday night all night, to do, nothing but watch others do what i wanted to do ie marshall !!! I applaud the cause, of course i do, but its been ruined for me, and if id have wanted to go to watch or even join in by walking the route, i wouldve signed up for that myself…I support cancer research anyway every year…this was just something different, or wouldve been, for me. For those that are still in on this, good for you…its just not what i had signed up to do. :crying:

I’ve not recieved the pack yet but the question we need answered is "why has our invovement in this event been down graded so much?

The packs will be given to bikers at the registration tent on mooncity…hyde park…no one has got a bikers pack…calm down…no one will be left out !!!

ive just seen whats left of the planning…M9, Barro have flogged a dead horse to make us frontline…

go with the flow !!

you registered ?..you doing it all…like you have for all his others ?..head down and **** off mate…its probably you that has hampered this…drop me out and essential rubber…we dont want you here anymore…prat !!

Got my letter today but haven’t had time to open it yet.

I’m still in. I was supposed to be driving my Mum’s new car up to her today and coming back tomoz with the hire car I left her, but I’m now doing it next Friday thanks to the car not being ready. I’ll be back Saturday night so won’t be attending the adhoc jolly into London. Although I’d rather do the entire 3 shifts, it can’t be helped and ear bashing the LB & The organisers won’t help the situation. With the current change of my plans for this week, its kinda worked out well now that we’re just doing the Sunday.

When you get it, check the time you are required to turn up !! 6.30am sunday morning to take over from the volunteers who are on foot and need a rest!! unless you are doing the actual walk.

Barro has been sold up the river on this one. He thought we would all be doing the whole route, (he said we would be needed for two shifts remember?) for the whole weekend well sat night to sunday midday…we thought so too. Turns out they have enough on foot and do not need us !! We will not get the whole route, but one measly mile to marshall of it…can you tell me what are we ALL supposed to do, on bikes, in a mile radius? If Barro was at one end and M9 at the other, they will cover it easy no ? No need for the rest of us/you then eh?

Anyway, yes im peed off and no i dont mean to take it out on anyone, least of all you, Raffles? You are only doing what you are being told as well as i was or barro, flatout or M9 or anyone else who was well up for this…What you should be saying is, if anyone wants to volunteer to turn up at 6pm saturday night, just to watch the walkers, and hang around until 6am sunday morning, when at last you can go to your mile zone allowed and stand next to each other to clap and cheer on the last walkers then please do so, as you will not be allowed to do anything marshall wise, until that time.

Hope you all have a enjoyable weekend people…its ruined for me though.

Got mine today , it states i need to register at Playtex City at 06:30

Is that the same for you others that have ur letter ?

We could all line the road with our bikes on both sides and make the last mile look like a ‘mile of honour’ to the end!

Yes m8…same one.

Yes mine too…good idea with lining the mile jools…maybe thats what you guys can do.
