bad accident

Very bad - I think the oncoming biker was killed, poor fella. It’s worth having this scenario on your radar - particularly in the summer when there are a lot of bikes around.

What the hell was that guy thinking?? Sorry, that’s just stupid. Presumably he’s lost the plot on the bend there and doesn’t know how to get down?

Gawd, I’m not going in this tunnel http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=YOVL1xyrYRM&feature=related

I think he knew I to go down, but he had lost the position when we was touching the first guy on the first bike. and 2 seconds later he was dead.

Well it’s horrible to see Em. A good example of why you have to learn countersteering and that the throttle turns both ways. I recall once losing it like that on a bend and thanking my lucky stars that there was no oncoming traffic, made me vow “never again”. How long had this guy been riding?

He looses his P.O.V and “focus” at the near miss. If the second bike had not been coming, he’d had ended up in the shrubbery anyway.

One of those times when thinking “what if I met myself coming the other way?” is quite useful. There’s lots of roads similar in the Spanish Pyrenees, 2 lanes one way, single the other, nothing wrong with using the whole road, but you’ve be sure it’s empty. Chasing his mate and I’d suggest he just forgot his obs.

There’s one particular stretch of road we ride a lot near our usual mountain base. It has a long downhill straight and then climbs through a series of bends cut into the face of a cliff. As we are going down the hill, we are always checking the road way ahead.

A few years ago a friend of mine got into the uphill stretch and decided to use the other side of the road to go 'round a slower rider. As he came around the blind corner he found a really slow 16 wheeler that had been hidden from view.

Somehow he avoided it, and 2 minutes later he removed his helmet. I’ve never seen a guy with a pulse look so white! Goes without saying that he erred on the side of caution from that day on.

Two excellent pieces of advice.

Saw that clip a while ago, apparently the guy coming the other way definitely didn’t make it out of that one (RIP). I reckon it was def. a case of the rider running wide, then panicking/target fixation, hence the wild line before the end :frowning:

Another thing he crossed a solid white line on a bend, and I assume that it means the same thing as it does it this country - no overtaking.

In my opinion he was going far to fast for the road and unfortunately someone else paid the price.

You might want to go and check your highway code on that one.

Bliddy hell…they ain’t good.

RIP biker.

why put this stuff on? Spread the love not doom gloom and gore!

I’m with you there!!! Don’t think there is any need for this kind of material, we are all fully aware of the dangers of riding bikes, aren’t we???

I really don’t mind this type of stuff if it is posted to inspire some constructive debate, in this instance on open road riding.

If it’s just popped up for the gore factor it turns me off TBH.

I’m still waiting for the OP’s opinion so I don’t know which it is in this case.

Call me a morbid fukka (I’ve been called much worse) but I don’t have a problem with this kinda stuff being posted, upsetting though it is, it serves at some kinda reality check more than anything…

Still have a link knocking about somewhere of the aftermath of a very high speed crash, in Romania or something, it’s very unnerving viewing but it’s the kinda sh1t us (as in bikers) risk when pushing the limit…

it is for a constructive debate and to (still) remember all of us to pay a lot of attention on the road and to drive as “defensive” as possible. looking at this video I learn a lot.

Solid white means you cant cross the line - for cars this usually translates to ‘no overtaking’… but not really the case for bikes, since quite often you dont need to cross the white line to overtake.

Regardless of what the code says… at the end of the day a solid white indicates high risk zone (usually because there isnt enough visual clearance for a nice overtake)… overtaking in these areas means you are taking a risk… be prepared to account for the consequences.

OK.

It does look as though he was blindly following the front bike. (Difficult to be sure because the camera isn’t exactly what the rider sees.) Of course, if he had rolled the throttle a bit and made his own mind up, he may have appeared to have been left behind… and that’s how a lot of guys riding in groups get in trouble.

That’s it.

I’m increasingly cautious of crossing them in the UK these days, because the police (rightly in most cases) take a very dim view of it.

Out in the sticks, or in the Spainish mountains as I seldom ride on UK roads these days, I’m more willing to. As you say, the white lines are warning of a hazard - so identify the hazard. Quite often, they have been laid down with cars in mind - not a superbike.

If you are about to cross onto the otherside of the road and you are not certain it’s clear of oncoming traffic, you’re setting yourself up for a fall; wether it’s solid white lines, or pink dashes with sparkly bits.

this is a way old video and Im way to drunk to even watch the end of it,
