Double white lines where the line nearest to you is broken. This means you may cross the lines to overtake if it is safe, provided you can complete the manoeuvre before reaching a solid white line on your side. White direction arrows on the road indicate that you need to get back onto your side of the road.

Double white lines where the line nearest you is solid. This means you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less.*
I believe (and I maybe wrong), that if as a motorcyclist the police see you passing cars but not crossing the a solid white line you have still committed an offence and will pull you over for it.

As long as the rider does not cross the solid white line then they are OK.
I misunderstood this rule myself the other week in my cage drving home from work. I got stuck behind a very slow pedal cyclist and would not over take until the line went broken on my side of the road.
So, in short crossing the line when pulling into/ out of junctions, drives = OK
Over taking cycles, horses, or road maintnenace = OK (if way is clear)
True, but some coppers may still pull you for “overtaking in a dangerous manner” or some crap to that effect.
Bit like their differing interpretation of filtering. For some they go by Traffic at 0-20mph = filtering, 20mph+ = overtaking dangerously others don’t seem to give a toss.
I live very close to where this happened - Budapest - and I have seen a longer clip than the one shown.
Prior to the clip on here the guy with the camera was riding along on his own, well within his capabilities and doing fine. The other bike (shown in front in the clip) overtook him at a much higher speed - camera man picked up to follow and right away started to get very untidy. The guy had almost no experience and was riding too quickly, according to Police.
The guy on the oncoming bike did not survive.
I think it’s OK to put this stuff on here if it makes us think…I know when I was just getting started on bikes I tried keeping up with more experienced riders only to scare the cr@p out of myself as I ran wide and made stupid mistakes. I imagine quite a fewof us have done the same and this , sadly , is often the result
What the hell was that guy thinking?? Sorry, that’s just stupid. Presumably he’s lost the plot on the bend there and doesn’t know how to get down?Gawd, I’m not going in this tunnel http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=YOVL1xyrYRM&feature=related[/quote]ok the bike clip was bad but then its part of the risk…this tunnel clip however is just funny! sickly so! here it would of been shut already lol
