Average speed cameras on the A40

As from 11th May the A40 from the Hoover building to Paddington Green Police station will be 40mph with average speed cameras.
It is part of of a ANPR camera set up

This makes me very unhappy. :sob:. Thanks for the heads up though.

Big thanks for the heads up.
How did you hear about this?

Forward or rear facing?

So basically exactly where I enter and leave the A40 for my every day commute. This is annoying to say the least.

Take your plate off, they won’t be able to chase you in rush-hour anyhow.

The only problem with that plan is that due to my abnormal working hours I, fortuitously, avoid the rush-hour.

Could you quote a source for this information? I travel that road every day and I’ve not seen any of these cameras being put up anywhere obvious. I know that there was a plan for this to be put in place but I’m surprised that it is to start so soon without having seen any infrastructure or signage go up. I may well have missed it but average speed cameras for a three lane road tend to be pretty conspicuous. I’m not sure it will make much difference to me anyway as I travel through rush hour and exceeding a 40 mph average whilst filtering through heavy traffic is going to take some practice

It will be interesting to see what happens on the elevated section though…

Anyone has any new details regarding this?

Ill let you know if I get something in the post…last night saw me reach a brisk pace…

Hah, by that time I expect I’ll be banned. All I saw today was traffic cameras, and those old gatsos that haven’t worked in ages.

I had a look today eastbound to see if I could see any.

There are a few of these:

just after the Homebase (Old Oak Common Lane).
From then there is nothing all the way to the other side of the flyover.

Really? I completely missed those. They were grouped like that and not just the one camera(which would be traffic cam)?

I can’t remember the exact grouping, might be 3 of them.
I just grabbed that pic randomly off google- they are that shape, but a different config.
I’ll take another look tomorrow and see if I can be more exact.

Actually, I’m wrong.
It is one of these (can’t embed it)

Hey, to be honest, there is a set of cameras exactly as you posted in a picture- 2 on top and three below (going eastbound, where there used to be three cameras every few hundred meters, now instead of the middle one it is that)! Good thing- facing front… But then again, in-between of that and the end of fly-over there are quite a few exits… And there are definitely no coverage on most of them…

No evidence of average speed check signs or cameras when I rode past today.

Yeah, I mean, no signage, just those extra 5 black front facing cams there… Still I wonder, what might they be doing there? Just monitoring? Too many… Part of an ongoing installation? But they’re there for already few months… And I am pretty sure I noticed three more of the same ones installed in an overhead sign around a mile down the road, but now I always forget to check…

Where exactly did you see them?

Honestly, cannot remember exact location… In between the exit to Westfield and the exit to Westbourne bridge… I am pretty sure there was one of those overhead signs like showing directions, but blank (grey). I hope I was not dreaming (he he)… I will check it today or tomorrow again, if I go the same way…
