Attempted theft outside metropolis vauxhall

When the KTM was stolen we had just had it serviced at the dealer, we were told that the KTM database was probably being tracked and that’s how they found the location of several KTM stolen in a line from Hertfordshire to the Southampton Docks - not sure how but a reasonable explanation.

Until they catch up at the next red light :frowning:

Red Lights???? What are they??

I think, and I’m only speculating, that it’s a network and everyone gets a cut. Probably starts with a spotter.

With hindsight I really only have myself to blame. I figured I'd only be 5 minutes at most, so I didn't bother with locking it up. Just a bit shocking that 5 min was all it took for some *&%$££ER to come by and spot it and break my steering lock, which I'll now have to claim for.

Was parked in the street parking, right here:

You weren't going into Chariots were you .... ??
Does anyone use any trackers? Any recommendations? Considering getting something. The paranoia has fully set in. http://www.visordown.com/features/products/new-oxford-gps-motorcycle-tracker looks decent, question is where I could hide it on the bike :/ BoomShaka

Haha, no, and thanks for the link.
Yeah, actually EXIF data seems a way more likely route than reading forums now you mention it. It's hilarious (and a little scary) how many people routinely upload photos with location data in them. Big Red S
On this note, and a question for Jay: But does LB upon getting a photo uploaded do any kind of metadata stripping? It's pretty common to throw pictures through a service like SmushIt to remove any excessive metadata to cut down on download sizes. But this could double up as a nice feature to help protect members privacy.

Otherwise, everyone remember to tweak their phone settings to not embed GPS details into photos!

Never trusted parking outside there - too easy for scrotes to hang around with helmets on and wait for the one punter to leave their bike unlocked as they visit the shop…was put off years ago when I heard that a guy returning a test ride Ducati had it nicked when he came back. They’ve had a few “problems” there over the years.

I never leave my bike anywhere and when it’s parked it’s inside my living room at night next to my pit bull terrier so come in and either get me with a baseball bat or my bullie hanging off your arm… That’s how I role!

Does anyone on here have one of the cheap GPS trackers then? Any recommendations? Am thinking of the TK104…

I think there was a thread about trackers already. Look for genuine ones (made by Xexun) and it should be fine. Cannot find that Xexun would be making TK104 at all.

not sure my bike is even worth nicking, but i’m beginning to think is it worth just getting one added.

Turns out a bloke about 2 roads over had is Break Disc cut to get his bike. Luckily he had a tracker and got it back (and the night after when they nicked it again).

I couldn’t find a recent thread apart from one about proper RF trackers.
What makes Xexun better than clones of it? Just asking…

Well xexun devices are already cheap, so even cheaper clone raises question how they managed to make it cheaper. When I was looking what to get couple years ago, people had endless issues with TK102 clones (crashing, not receiving location etc). Maybe things have changed now.

Found on FB group. One guy had his bike stolen twice and recovered using this tracker https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01GFYCQ4M/ref=cm_sw_r_wa_apa_4QY5xbQ9BQ9MX

Other guy is happy with this xexun clone: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-GPS-Tracker-Car-Vehicle-Spy-Mini-Personal-Bike-Tracking-Device-TK1…

Aren't they invariably on stolen bikes or fake plates though? So short of actually stopping them in the act and restraining them there's nothing the cops can do, CCTV doesn't seem that helpful when they are helmeted AND wearing balaclavas underneath. Should have restrained him, reckon I could have done it, but then there are always those scary stories of acid/knives/whatever. So probably not worth it in the end.
CCTV isn't constantly recording, cameras only record when 'pinged' eg non-payment of congestion charge, number plate pings as stolen vehicle. A fake plate, copied from a legit vehicle, won't ping the camera (or so I was told by police when mine was stolen in London)
