Just letting you know I got here at long last!! Living in a guest house with an Australian and a bloke from Bangladesh. Work is excellent and I work mainly with Afghan people who are lovely.
Re work - the projects are very good - over 40,000 people have received limbs in the centre in the south, 800 disabled men and women in the past year in Kabul have gained access to wheelchairs, other assistive devices and training to get back into work. The work is mainly run by the Afghan people, assisted by some expats, of whom I am one.
It is weird living here though right now - lots more restrictions over the past six months so I hear, checkpoints, curfews, armed soldiers at the bank, radioing in every minute using code and restricted movement. Tomorrow I will got to a meeting to learn how not to be kidnapped.
Anyway - enjoy the biking - no biking for me am afraid !!
Nice to hear you got there safely. I’ve read a couple of book recently about Afganastan over the last 30 or so years, it’s heartbreaking, great work you are doing there, stay safe
Glad you made it there safely Hels. It sounds like a tough gig not made any easier by the enormous amount of restrictions it sounds like you all are enduring.
Keep the updates coming (when electricity allows) and stay safe!
