Arrived safe in Kabul

Good to hear you arrived safely.

yo hels!

glad you get there ok and things are good! stay safe:)

Hiya
Thanks for all your messages - really great to hear from you all!!
At the moment there is a lock down in place, just in time for the weekend :frowning: (which is Thursday and Friday). So i can send you some great pics of my room if you like!! Had a really nice dinner with some Afghan members of the team at work to break the Ramadam fast, then us three expats wanted to go to the Red Cross bar. However - apparently there have been suicide bomb threats and cars packed with explosives are rumoured to be in Kabul. Because of this there is no movement for the next couple of days, so will be going nowhere!!
Yes there are some great books around about Afghanistan and the people are really warm and welcoming, far more friendly and accepting than I expected. As a foreign woman you are in a good position, because you can mix with the Afghan women, which men generally can’t, and the Afghan men seem to treat you as an honourary bloke, so it is easier to talk to them as well.
To be honest, I reckon it’s just as safe going out as staying in, as the guest house is guarded by two unarmed blokes who are very pleasant and affable, but I doubt they would be much help against any attack.
Anyway - work is great though.
Miss biking - and the Angels and if any of you lot can post some pics up of any great rides out and famous bikes, such as the Riot, that would be lovely.
Take it easy.

You be careful, gel. Dress up in a gurkha.

You might want to consider transferring your posting to Baghdad, if such a thing were possible…
