you should go diving at stoney cove in leicestershire some massive pike in there, scare the bejesus out of you when you first see them…
gorgeous fish though…trust you put it back…
my mate i fish with has dived stoney, hes seen some good pike in there! he said they bigger ones are very intimidating when your in their envoirment:Dthey all go back mate, always!
to beatiful to kill!must learn to dive it be magic too see pike doing what they do!
Last time i went fishing i was 9 years old and got arrested.
Hate to rock the boat, but i’ve caught & eaten Pike in Sweden - that is what they do, addmitedly they were Jack Pike, wouldn’t do that if it was a specimen.
Stayed in a summer house on an island just off Stockholm, the water is very clear & clean, so they don’t taste of the muddy bottom. The meat is white, lots of bones, but tastes delicious, especially inbetween toasts of scnapps & loud singing of old Swedish folk songs… Sorry.
Learned to dive in Greece, tried it here once in the Lake District, didn’t like it, to murky, has to be the Med for me.
My favorite fish are Tench, but unfortunately I get very little time to pursue Angling these days.
well done ratty46
Ema
there is the myth of ‘grandaddy pike’ in Blue Lagoon in Arlesey pits… apparently it’s MASSIVE!
ratty when I catch up with you remind me to tell you about my cousin catching the baby pike (and what he used as bait !!!)
…and fcuuk me it wasn’t even visible next to the thing in your picture :w00t:
LOL@ johnp, were you poaching!?
mate i would be a hypocrite if i said its wrong to eat pike, i have and do use smalll jacks as bait. as long as no specimens are being taken its not really a problem.
i have heard they taste muddy! zander tastelike cod apparently , very nice by all acoounts.
ah you need a nice gin clear pit to dive in mate!
i like tench, good fighters, nice green flanks and they little red eye:)
lol, all of our freshwater fish, pike feature in some right old tales…they eat jack russells ya know…:D:P
lol, thats not even my biggest:w00t:![]()
No i wasn`t poatching, i was with a group of older boys who had made bombs which they threw in and when they went off there was a loud bang and fish floating to the top.
The lads and myself tried to net them in but within 10 mins the police arrived and we were taken to the police station where my dad came to pick me up. When i got home i was given a huge beating for getting involved.
I don’t have a fishing license but have been with Chuff a few times and landed carp and bream. If I can work out how to post up pics, i’ve got a few good ones on my phone of a linear carp.
Wow what a lovely specimen Ratty:D i started fishing as a kid for carp rudd tench etc but one of my mates got me into spinning for pike i loved it,i caught a few bigguns in me time but ain’t been fishing for years

i have times when i just dont go, then i get right on it and go everyweek!
wish my PB was 16+ at 9 years old!
whats your PB carp? predator fishing great, please remember preds are very deilcate, pike especiilaly require certain handling skills, if you havent fished for them before check out www.pacgb.com pike anglers club of great britain;)
nice one the links, i grew up watching a passion for angling didnt realise it was on here, i dont have the dvds or videos, i shall enjoy them, filmed by hugh miles, hes done many many wildlife programmes, polar bears and all sorts. i love wildlife! epsecially when im fishing, always feeding the robins up:D
Ratty - largest carp ever caught was 32lb 6oz, and it was a proper British fish. That was in the only weeks carp fishing I had ever done. Just thought I would have another go this year. Plenty of doubles, but no idea whats in the waters that I have been fishing tbh. Usually fish on the pole, only used it once this year as trying to avoid it, had a 9.5 lber. The guy in the Videos, Chris Yates, who you may well have heard about, wrote a book called casting at the sun, one of the greatest reads of all. Turns out he lived round the corner from where I was living with my growing family, and the pond he started out on, is where I started my youngester as well, just didn’t know that at the time. Unfortunately, too many people witnessed my catch rate up there and the place got out of hand, the council emptied the fish to stop the angling. Gutted. And the handling is ok of the predators, did a teach in at Bury Hill and learnt how to handle Pike and Zander with competence - well that was the aim anyway. All my fish get returned, even if they are Salmon or trout.
Nice one Ratty, I fish for Trout and Salmon occasionally.
No real biggies as such usually around the 12lb mark.
