A bit of market research regarding motorcycle recovery

I am doing a bit of market research for a project I am working on, so your views would e greatly appreciated.

If you had the opportunity to buy a recovery/breakdown insurance which included -

Recovery after a crash as standard as well as a conventional  breakdown.

Legal expenses insurance included

Recovery to aywhere in the UK

Recovered by a specialist motorcycle recovery company

1, would you be interested, and 2, how much would you be prepared to pay?

It is still eary days and as I said it is just a bit of market research to get an idea of what the interest might be.

I would be very interested but anything more than £50 would probably put me off. Also, would need to know if it was unlimited use or only once per year

Tbh for me it’s something I’ve always bolted haggled on with insurance so not so sure about a separate policy unless it was substantially better and competitively priced

If it’s the same as my current RAC costs I’d be interested if it includes recovery after a crash, which RAC don’t do nowdays. They tell you to call your insurance company to arrange collection.

Could it include European cover as well? As an extra cost over what’s listed above.

Howdy T.C.

  1. Yes
    2. 35.

For me, an important point would be that if I needed my car/bike recovered, that it would not be limited to one destination, because if the incident happened on Good Friday, there’d be no place open for my car/bike to be taken to, so it would need to be first taken to my home, then later transported to a repair centre, after Easter Monday.

Also, with so many second rate solicitors around, I’d want the freedom to be able to select any firm of solicitors of my choice, if the situation needed legal expertise.

It would be essential that they do puncture repairs, especially to motorcycle tyres.

On the side, does your username stand for Top Cat?

1 yes
2 I would say up to 80-90 but that would be with home start and travel to home rather than just a certain mileage…

1.  Yes

2.  Depends on the frills/exclusions

lol @ Martin

Also, with so many second rate solicitors around.

Thats not Nice, poor TC :)

T.C & Marmablade - Crickey no, I wasn’t trying to be rude or offensive, and my apologies if it came over that way.  Seriously, it was only a question, and as I saw your username, the cartoon Boss Cat aka Top Cat, theme tune came to mind.

On the first point, you have been allowed to choose your own law firm for a few years now although the insurers would have you believe otherwise which does not help because most members of the public are none the wiser.

On the second point?  No…

lol

Yes, a few hundred quid if it included Europe, I could nominate the garage, and covered me riding more than one bike.

Recovery after a crash

An excellent idea. The only time I’ve crashed on the road I ended up going off in an ambulance. Fortunately I crashed near Bahnstormer BMW and they held onto the bike for me until I got someone on Shiply to pick it bike up. It’s shoddy that some recovery companies don’t pick you up.

Legal Expenses

I’ve got that with both my bike insurance and travel insurance, so no.

Recovery Anywhere in UK

Have this already with Green Flag

Recovery by a specialist bike recovery company

Has happened on both occasions with Green Flag within 90 minutes, once at Sidcup in SE London, once at Snetterton circuit

I think I pay about £125 with Green Flag but that includes transport to onward destination with my pillion over Europe and a hire car or bike to complete the tour.

Only thing I wouldnt be bothered about was the specialist recovery and the legal cover. The recovery after an accident would be a definite 9lus as would European cover, not that I ever crash or brakedown in Europe…unlike some.

Just experienced this with Auto Aid, so wouldn’t be interested unless offering more than they do for the same price, £43

got to consider with the event of recovery after a crash, the van might end up with all kinds of fluids dripping from the bike ruining the floor. that’s probably why AA/RAC etc don’t cover it.

I don't think that's got anything to do with it, it's more to the fact it costs more when a recovery van is sent out than repairing at the side of the road. Their business is hedging bets on people signing up and not using the service to make the most profit. If they factor in crash recovery it probably doesn't make economic sense.

Bit of insider input
Recovery to anywhere within uk …will this be using a relay method as a lot of companies wont want to travel that due to limitations and legislation. ( recovery trucks can work within a 100km radius of base without using a tachograph )
Aa and suchlike wont recover accident unless you have gold membership as insurance companies deal with recovery of this and costs are recouped through that .third party rescuers love fluids leaking etc as you get extra for needing to clean the bed of your truck .
Specialists motorcycle recovery firms are quite few and far between which can mean a long wait somewhere .

BigD will recover for a glimpse of side boob and a twix.
