znen tommy 125 scooter acceleration problem

Will not accelerate after about 1/2 mile from start of journey. Stop starting at junctions and roundabouts,no acceleration then too much acceleration as I am in full throttle. Problem intermittant but happens more than not. Got a job to get uphill when no run at hill, crawls up and then can get acceleration at top.

Driving me nuts as nervous anyway as only just rehabilitated from skiing accident last Xmas and don’t want to come off!

What scooter is it?

If it is running OK when started, and then loses acceleration I would suspect a fuel delivery problem. If it has a fuel pump, is it working properly? If it has a fuel filter, is it blocked? If both are OK, is the carb working properly? If it is fuel injected, there are several things that mean it might not get proper fuel delivery once warmed up.

hi and thanks

it’s a znen tommy 125 cc same as the tamoretti (jamie oliver scooter)…

I will avoid cheap jokes about cheap scooters.

I guess it is not fuel injected. You need to check if fuel is flowing to the carb, and if the float is floating properly. You might also need to check the auto choke as it may be that the bike is running fine when cold but not when hot if the problem arises after half an hour of running. Checking these should be similar to checking them on any carb scooter - there is a universal Haynes Scooter manual, which whilst it won’t tell you exctly what to do with your scooter, it will explain the principles which should not be that dfficult to apply to your bike.
