If you look on Xena’s website (www.xenasecurity.com), you can find out what locks are suitable for your bike.

There are a couple that are sold secure gold approved - XN14, XN15 and XX14 (http://www.soldsecure.com/search?name=xena&action=). Take your pick from one of these!

Yea, take a look at their site.

Some have 6mm locking pins while others have chunkY 14mm double locking pins. The 14mm will only fit discs with wider gaps (not found on many 125’s)

Some have alarms and some don’t.

I have praised Xena alarm locks for repelling an attack on my DRZ by two scooter scrotes last year.

The alarm locks are water resistant but you’d want to make sure the speaker hole is pointed down during heavy rain. I managed to kill an alarm by leaving it in the garden with the speaker facing up.

They’re really sensitive, almost too sensitive imo. You have to be ultra fast unlocking the yoke or else it goes off in your ear.

If you cant get it off before the 3rd warning beep then you fail! :smiley:
I can mine off on the first beep… it’s all technique!

XR1 = 6mm (left)
XZZ6 = 6mm (middle)
XN14 = 14mm Double Lock (right)

A good, solid n reliable bit of kit. I’ve got one, they are waterproof n loud enough that you’ll know if somebody trys to nick your bike in the night.

how does the battery side of things work?

how sensitive are they? In case a bike’s covered up and it’s windy, would there be a chance of them going off?

Lasted me around 10months on 6 x LR44 button cells.

Wind isn’t a problem but if the wind is flapping the cover against the lock hard enough then it will go off. The instructions say that the alarm will be more sensitive if placed at 12o’clock on your disc and less at 6o’clock.

I can vouch for these little fellas, I’ve got two of them (XN series). They are small enough to carry under the seat. Apparently, it’s better to use them on the back disc as it’s more difficult the get them off. Get one with the chunkier pin, it’s worth the extra money.

I never had a problem with the cover flapping, well, at least I never heard it go off! Just be careful not to drop the lock as it may damage the alarm module, something I had to find out the hard way. Luckily, you can get a replacement, which is not too expensive.

This is great value!

Hi Guys.
…is the Xena small enough so i can carry it in a jacket pocket? i have a oxford boss disc lock but its to big and heavy so looking for something more portable :slight_smile:

My other half carries his in his jacket pocket sometimes, but personally, I would never do it. They are fairly small, but the more expensive ones are quite heavy and to be honest I wouldn’t risk it. Just imagine coming off and falling on it :pinch: Can’t you carry it under your seat?

does it not come with a little bag??

if so, just strap it to the rear footrest hanger, I carried mine there for years on my hornet

yes definitely not the safest way but i am pretty sure my michelin belly would soften the impact :smiley:
…just need something small and loud for the quick trips to the bank, post office etc and the xena looks like the best/cheapest option.

I carried mine on one of frame tubes for a long time, great piece of kit. The only issue I had was that it went off when not on the disc at one stage and it turned out the reflector was dirty - 30 seconds cleaning and all was fine :slight_smile:

Jepp, they are brilliant for that :slight_smile: Ratcatcher, yes, they still come with the pouch (at least mine did) and your idea is brilliant!

I have used them for years and think they are a useful warning of anyonetampering with your bike.

If the alarm sounds when it shouldn’t it is either a dirty sensor/reflextor as said, or the batteries are on the way out.

As for battery life, cheap no brand batteries on ebay last much less long than genuine branded batteries.
