Wizz Air Hand Baggage Scam

I’m waiting to board a Wizz Air flight and cringing because the flight attendents are actually enforcing the max size of hand luggage. Unfortunately their max size is smaller than the typical wheeling flight case so about a third of the passengers are being sent to check them in for double the usual cost!

I can see their point as some people really take the **** with huge hand luggage but surely the luggage manufacturers should build cases to fit within the size restrictions?

I’m just glad I brought my small bag this time.

So… where’s the scam ? If people don’t check what size they’re allowed, then bollo ** cks to them.

I suppose the scam would be the fact that people buy these cases on the assumption that they will be permitted as carry on luggage. It is nice not to have to fight for locker space on a packed flight tho

How longs a piece of string? what one person considers to be a small bag someone else might think was a big bag, moral of the story is always check with the airline before packing your bag and leaving for the airport, it usually tells you all the restrictions when booking or on your confirmation email so no scam really

On the Whizz air website it clearly states this:

Passengers are allowed to carry only one piece of hand baggage with the maximum dimensions 55x40x20 and not exceeding 10 kilograms.
Should the weight or the size of the hand baggage exceed the aforesaid limits, the baggage will be transported as checked baggage and a baggage fee will be collected.

So if you ask me its the luggage companies scamming the passengers by having them believe they can use the luggage on any airline!

It is a nuisance though that airlines have different size requirements. BA allow huge cases now! Some airlines will allow two pieces of carry on luggage while others still only allow one…no wonder the passenger gets confused.

Thats the problem there is no consistency between airlines on the size of hand luggage

They only differ betweeen 5cms accros the carriers. ( for the majority )

I hear 5cm can make all the difference

Lol , so the wife says !

There is a “scam” being run by some of the cheap carriers over hand luggage.

Saw a report on watchdog a few weeks back where the test cage is the correct size at the check-in desks but smaller air-side so people waiting to board are getting stung for hold baggage where their bag is within the limits.

pack a tape measure

OK hands up I got it wrong, the watchdog report was just about bmi baby

double dipping barstewards!

Sure ryanair were doing this on the last flight I caught out of Luton. Checked every single bag as we waited to board… So long as you can forcibly get it into the cage (and out again unless you want to take some blue scaffolding home), you’re sorted.

BMI were on WatchDog for scamming.

They hand luggage measuring things in the check-in were the correct size say… 2’x2’x2’
But at the boarding part after check in they were 1.9’x1.9’x1.9’. but still only allowed 2x2x2.
So people were charged extra even though there bags were 2x2x2.

I work in Airport Security and the rows you hear between paseengers and handling agents is hilarious…

There may be a “scam” on the size checking box, but that’s just a symptom.

Once upon a time ALL airlines used the same maximum dimensions and I had a bag that carried a label stating it’s dimensions and that it complied with some airline charter or another.

Now all the carriers seem to make it up and the sizes vary, so what was good for one flight is no good for another.

How many cabin luggage bags are you supposed to own?

Of course you could just use the hold? :stuck_out_tongue:

I find it a lot more relaxing in the airport than worrying you might forget your bag :w00t:

My take on airlines is that they are like banks, their service varies in its level of shitness

This airline is a SCAM! After arriving at my gate, Wizzair purposely delayed the flight so that the staff could cash in on everyone’s carry-ons. The staff at the Wizzair gate in Madrid Barajas insisted on being paid 60 Euro - CASH ONLY (they refused to take credit cards - now how legit is that??) in order to let me board the flight and confiscated the carry-on that I had used on numerous other flights during this trip and others (standard carry-on that fit and complied with every other airline I had been on). They could have easily asked people to pay or rearrange their luggage when checking in, but instead chose to trap everyone and force people to pay cash when they had no other choice left. People were ripping the wheels off their carry-ons or simply abandoning them at the airport! It was a complete circus, a scheme orchestrated by a criminal airline. Wizzair’s size requirements do not comply with international standards (no well-made carry-on with wheels will fit their frame) and their policies and employees are simply abusive and immoral.

What’s worse Ryanair is heading the same way. I used to pay £10 for an extra checked in luggage, not bigger than my cabin baggage as it was only allowed to be up to 15kg. Then gradually they increased the fee to £25 for the same size and weight luggage  so I have googled a courier company and packed up a box full of stuff and sent it to my home town. I’d rather pay the couriers and have peace of mind that the parcel arrives safe and sound at my door instead of having to pay the airlines extra insurance on top of the £25 and they’d still rip the shite out of my case (which taught me to wrap it in cling film at home before leaving for the airport lol  )
so now i only carry as much as fits in my cabin baggage, the rest goes via couriers
