Who fancies following in Ewan and Charley's tyre tracks - Round the World Trip

Check this out http://www.kuduexpeditions.com/expeditions6.htm

This company offers fancy schmancy biking exhibitions just like long way down and long way round. takes about 4 months for the RWT trip and if you use their bike (you’d have to really as i don’t think a GSXR K7 would make the ROAD OF BONES) then cost is £22,750

I’ve been doing a bunch of research on trips just recently as I’ve decided that after a nicely successful 7 years in London, it is time to pick up the old wanderlust and get back out there again.

Personally, I am more your independent traveller so these types of tours don’t really float my boat (albeit they are probably great to do) but seems there are a few around - even two week jobs so you can fit it in as holidays. Some others include:

As for my own plans, it has been just over 10 years since my 2 years (5 if you include the 3 years working in US) backpacking extravaganza and I have grown weary of grey rain drenched London streets. Next year I shall be doing the following:

10-12 Trackdays plus one or two in Spain between April-September. Then sell the track and road bikes…

Late September, I will be flying to India and pick up a Royal Enfield Bullet (or similar) in New Delhi and spend the next 6 months covering as much as possible from Kerala to Amritsar, Himalayas to Goa and points in between. (A bit like Damien I’anson in Bike magazine did if you remember the articles.)

Late March 09 I will be heading back to UK (Via South Africa) for a brief two week stopover before flying out to Las Vegas to purchase a BMW GS1200 courtesy of these lovely folks http://www.bmwoflasvegas.com/ - check out the prices £7,500 for a GS!!!

The plan is still evolving from here but I am looking to ride the Pan American Highway down to southern Chile with a few diversions on route, then back up to the US, up the west coast to Vancouver I might do this bit from Las Vegas before heading to Central and South America depending on the Logistics. plan on this taking 9-10 months of pretty relaxed travelling with a bit of local living on route.

First part to India pretty much sorted, just organising the second part now. Have booked Spanish classes at nightschool in January and making the necessary enquiries about whether my old North Carolina driving license is still valid (not a problem just easier if it is re insurance and bike purchase). Also doing the necessary visa/carnet style investigations - all part of the fun the planning :w00t:

Budgeting around £30-35k for the trips - maybe less if I do some casual work on route

Anyhow, if anyone has any tips on the travelling (not trackdays - done enough of those :stuck_out_tongue: ) components - it is gratefully received. I could perhaps post up a travelog style journal for the site once underway - depending on access (might take the laptop…now there’s a thought)

I’m very jealous :frowning: Sounds like you’ll have an awsome time  Sorry, I don’t have any advice other than take at least one fresh credit card with a massive credit limit!

i have a friend that did a world tour all on his todd

I am sure he would love a chat about his experience if you want

I’d love to do the classic Harley across Route 66 type thing one day:cool:

Sounds exciting  Do you have to grow stubble & not comb your hair

Yes, you will have to keep us up to date with your escapades & take lots of pics to make us green with envy :stuck_out_tongue:

PM sent…

Pfft. For cheap thrills, a mate and me took 125s from London to Mongolia on the same route as the Long Way Round. Cost us just over two grand each, had masses of adventure, took only 39 days and proved you dont need a huge bmw to have a blast. Proper independent, no help whatsoever, could have died type travel

Take a look at the http://mongolrally.theadventurists.com/ and my sig.

That sounds sweet GG, also KTM man, that sounds like a laugh, I guess 125’s might have an easier time over the rough stuff… but also maybe they cant carry quite as much equip?

GG, gonna be in Himalayas in september as well, on an organised tour (not that adventurous me :))…

Sounds great, I prefer to go solo. BMW not confirmed, could just as easy be a knackered old Tenere depending on what I can find in the classifieds over there. Plus lighter is better as I’m reliably informed.

Done the could have died stuff ten years ago. Bully for you :stuck_out_tongue:

Book me up,i’ll have some of that!! Errr hang on,sorry thought it said £2,750, oh well.

Sounds amazing, hope you do manage to post pics etc on your travels so we can all follow your progress.

sounds great…india is a great place to tour and very safe relative to say middle africa…why dont you try and get some air time and maybe some sponsors…

sounds like an amazing trip! im so jelous, i would so love to do a big bike trip at some stage in my life, maybe in the future…, but whatever you do, good luck and keep us posted with pics!

Sounds great, makes my cannonball treks seem like a jaunt to the shops. Today in the westend i came up behind a BMW 57 plate GS who was dithering , i felt like shouting “out the way you born again” then on closer inspection noticed Charley Boormans face in his wing mirror.

I tried to get from LA to Acapulco by bike but didnt get past the Mexican border (paperwork probs) but my friend ended up down South America somewhere like Belize, nothing but mad stories to tell.

I’ve put a deposit down for the 2009 trip - might buy the new f800gs
