What tyres for zzr1100

I am doing loads of motorway miles these days and my tyres are a bit squared off. They Dunlops and done about 5K loads of life left but not good onback roads. Can anyone suggest a good tyre for this bike, Needs to be a balance of grip and long life (as always). I don’t ride around on my ear all the time but would still like something reasonably grippy…Best of both worlds?

Hmm theres always the Bridgestone BT020 / 021s, last well and fairly grippy but horrible in the wet. Or the ‘Roadsmart’ replacement for Dunlops D220ST is supposed to very good, can’t see on their site though?

Michelins all the way for grip and feel in the wet and dry, but my Pilot Powers aren’t looking very good at all for longevity.

I’ve got Michelin Pilot 2CT Road on my bike, I put them on for the winter because the Bridgestones were like riding on ice and have to say they are brilliant in the wet, just incredible. Very good in the dry too, have done several cold track days in them and they lean far enough to get my toe touching the tarmac. They warm up very quickly and even on a wet, cold north circ still manage to keep some warmth in them.

Not sure how many miles they have done, probably about 5000 or so and the front is still looking very good but the rear has just started to feel a bit square but still looks rounded, loads of tread left, should get another 3000 or so miles from the rear.

Anyone tried Bridgestone BT45s?

110/90 V19 62 H

and 120/80 19 62V ?

I’ve got some sort of Cheng Shins, mounted right now, not too bad, seems to wear well. And I don’t demand a lot of wet traction, usually I get more condensation from the AC units than rain.

So i’d like to compromise between long wear and dry traction, without concerning my self with how the bike handles wet roads.

Nearly 8k from 2CTs Slarty?? My single compound Pilot Power rear has done 2k and is starting to square already! Incredible grip and feel wet and dry though as you say.

Is the Power 2CT harder than normal in the middle and softer on the edges, or same as normal in the middle and softer on the edges do you know?

The 2CT tyres have a harder compound in the middle of the tyre but the Power version is much softer overall than the Road version, I didn’t realise at the time but the Road is a touring tyre but seems to have done a cracking job. I’ve only got a 600 so not much torque to chew it up.

Have a look here: http://two-wheels.michelin.com/2w/front/affich.jsp?codeRubrique=2092004103747&lang=EN Mine are the Pilot Road 2.

Bridgestone 020s for me.Mine always seem to cup at the front and square off at the back, this does mean they are both shagged out at the same time though. I end up doing all my distance work on it - great all round tyre in wet and dry and get great mileage (over 8000m on last couple of sets).

Don’t know what the replacement 021s are like on 11 though - suposed to be an improvement (harder centre with grippier side).Phil
