What is included in OTR price

Picking up my new bike on Monday I was surprised to find the dealer had put only about 5l of fuel in it and virtually the first thing I had to do was fill it up. Whenever I had had a new car or bike in the past it has always come with a full tank.

Secondly when I put the tax disc into a more secure holder I was surprised to find it was only a six month disc. I have always had 12 months on a new vehicle (although it is possible I paid extra for that)

Is it normal to supply a bike with only a quarter of a tank of fuel and half a tax disc?

The dealer I went to (RGB in Ruislip) is not the nearest dealer and I used them because they came across as the most honest in my area. I did not haggle them down on price and the price net of trade-in was about the same as others I had been quoted.

A full tank of fuel and 12 months tax would have added £50 to the cost of the bike. If they had said that for an extra £50 I could have had those things I would have done so for the convenience. As it is, I feel I have been short-changed and probably would not use them again. Am I being unfair on RGB?

Have had 3 bikes from 3 different Honda dealers, Firstline Motorcycles, Chiswick Honda and lastly Dobles, all bikes have had a years tax on them and first two with full tanks of petrol and last one with about half a tank,

Suppose if they are cutting costs its one way of doing it but like you had you have known you could have paid the difference and got a years tax.

Seems that Honda are also no longer offering FREE labour costs on first services as of 01/01/09

i took delivery of a 09 r1 last week, that came with approx half a tank of fuel and i also paid the extra £33 to the dealer to have 12 months road tax!!

Did you pay full rrp or did you get a discount?

I bought my bike new from 21st Moto in Sidcup, didnt haggle and got a crap px price. (i know, my fault!) then the dealer slapped a plastic 20p tax disc holder on the screen, which we couldnt get off, and he didnt put the tank pad on properly, its all puckered. Wont be going back, god know what the service will be like, (read the servicing thread on here).

I bought my bike new from 21st Moto in Swanley, didnt haggle and got a crap px price. If you are buying a brand new bike then you should be entitled to 12 months tax, if its a second hand bike then more likely to be 6 months. Fuel is a grey area and something that should be negotiated when you place the order.

Maybe you can check the terms and conditions on the website/brochure where it shows the RRP to see what is included. If you got a reasonable discount then be greatful.

But yes its a bit wrong for what little it costs and to get you to come back for the servicing and accessories you may buy.

When I picked up my bike from dobles, brand new, the tax disc wasn’t even on the bike (still in the owners manual) and by some mystical feat, the tank was running on fumes. For the sake of a couple of quid you would have thought that they would at least put some in! There were other issues but thats another story.

Advice is to make sure it’s all finalised before you order and get it put on the order form

I’ve always got a tiny amount of fuel and six months tax. As has been said here already, if you’re getting a discount on the bike, you can’t really argue.

Seems to vary a lot.

I’ve bought a very expensive motorcycle at near list in the past and got 5 litres/6 month tax. (They filled the tank after an argument.)

I’ve bought a fair price second hand bike and got a full tank and years tax.

Bought the current bike at a huge discount and got a full tank and a years tax.

Lord knows what the lesson from that is. Luck?

“luck” be bu***red, they saw you comming.:stuck_out_tongue:

What, the dealer thought “Here comes a tight fisted old fart, we’ll screw him over and only give him a large discount, a full tank of fuel and a years road tax?”

I wish the a few more traders would see me comming.

Grrrrrrr… put in my place again by the old codgers massive. I once bought some Sainsburys vine tomatoes reduced from £1.95 to 59 pence as the sell buy date was close. Went out on a bender and by the time I was sober they were all furry. And the moral is…?

Shorter benders?
Use the tomatoes the day you buy them?
Drink at home and keep an eye on the tomato ripening?
Buy fresher tomatoes?
Don’t buy in a supermarket? (See above.)
Get completely wrecked and fry/eat the tomatoes ignoring the furry bits?

I’m sure the list goes on.

I took a bike out on a test ride from HGB and it ran out of petrol, put a fiver in but never got a receipt so didn’t bother claming it back.

I bought a new bike at list price and got 12 months tax and full tank of fuel from Lamba motorcylces. But I bought my next bike secondhand from Motorcycle Stores in Shepherds Bush at a huge discount and they did not give me any tax and the petrol was on the red. I didn’t complain because I’d got £1600 off the asking price…

OTR means exactly that. Most dealers put 6 months tax on new bikes over 600cc, as for fuel that is up to the dealer but clearly as fuel costs rise even £10 doesn’t tip the scales much nowadays.

Dealers are under no obligation to tax used bikes unless it is included in the original deal. Since Jan 2009 only the registered owner can get a refund of tax so if it comes in with tax it goes out with tax.

Best advise is to ensure when ordering your bike that it clearly states on any paperwork that 12 months tax and full tank of fuel is included in the price.

Put them in the fruit bowl and claim to visitors they are a new variety of peach?

My current bike had 12 months tax and half a tank. So good for the same distance as PJ on a full tank. :stuck_out_tongue:

Chelsea Fan - your first and most basic error was going to RGB in Ruislip! He’s my local Honda dealer - I ride a Honda so were do I go…Any were but their!

I’ve got a bike from Chiswick Honda before, n got a full tank of juice + a full years road tax. Got another bike from Trumpet dealer in Essex, and that already had tax on it but still got a full tank of juice and some crash bungs out of them.

Maybe I’ve been lucky, but I’d avoid RGB like the plague. I’ve said as much in a ‘Praise or Shame’ thread.

I got a brand new Honda from Dobles, £100 off the list price, 12 months tax and enough fuel to get to the petrol station.

Still, a full tank cost me £8.50 and I got 275 miles out of that, so am I complaining?

Yes I bl00dy am, tight fisted gits
