Following on from the morning role call, i started wondering what it is you people do for a living that gets you up in the morning/evening. It seems we have a fair few that work nights and good majority that are office based.
So i will start.
I work at a BMW dealership in Cobham selling used BMW’s. normal working hours that unfortunately include every saturday and occasional sundays.
Currently I work as a Technical Consultant for a Networking company in Nottingham, although I have been on permanent secondment to Delta Air Lines, since May 2001.
This changing very shortly. As I have been made redundant. Will be joining the great unwashed masses at the end of July.
We have our own Plumbing & Heating Company, I run the office whilst he is out doing all the manual work… There are pro’s and con’s of this as we never seem to be away from work and people don’t seem bothered what time of day or night they call (even for the slightest of things,… recently had a call at 1am asking for a Gas Safety Check at any point the following week!!!) I wasn’t amused as they had woken everyone up, can’t just leave the phone as it’s often used in an emergency by family.
The pro side is that we can disappear when we want especially when the weather is good I can do the same during the day (flick the answerphone on and be off) but Mark does frown upon this if he’s hard at work himself
Project Manager working in t’interweb, digital tv and stuff - working on some hardcore sexiness with Silverlight and DeepZoom, amongst other things, atm.
Always up early, so head into the office whilst the roads are joyous and then go for a run, swim or gym. Then a coffee in the morning sun with a good dose of people watching.
During the week, I work for Calyon (Credit Agricole) Bank. Hours can be anything from 7am to 9pm. In the evenings and at weekends, I do the accounts, to do lists, ordering parts, dealing with customers and general office work for the business that I run for my partner, Mark. He manufactures bespoke road, club and BSB exhaust systems and is very good at that but not at the other stuff. Good sides to this are that we get full VIP access to all BSB meets and I have a massive network of bike related contacts and accounts. Bad side is as Ang has touched on - people think they can ring when we are on holiday to discuss how to route an exhaust. At least one of us attends all BMCRC club rounds to pick up customers’ mashed silencers for repair (oh and we race too lol).
So believe me when I tell you Ive only had four days off since christmas and I am REALLY looking forward to leaving for France tomorrow night and not coming back til July! The phone will DEFINATELY be switched off.
Group Disposals Manager for a VW/Audi dealer group in Cambs/Beds area . Not particularly complicated but fuggin stressfull dealing with big volumes of vehicles - hey ho , It’s the only thing I know AND I’m bloody good at it
Soon to be working from home three days a week too so that should make getting on more ride outs :D:D
Network Manager for a software company primarily looking after a data centre we use to host our software for customers. Mostly large companies, high street names and the NHS. Although the DC is in Docklands we also have a DR site in Cambridge and my office is in a thatched building in the middle of a field with a couple of large ponds in Hertfordshire. Makes it bearable
I am Legal Sec for one of the biggest law firms in the world…and I’m so bored! I wish Ferrari would kick off again and cause McLaren trouble as McLaren are one of my bosses biggest clients and all hell breaks lose when the Italians start flipping out
I eat donuts and drink coffee. Sometimes I get to drive a car moderately fast, but that is usually followed by filling out lots and lots of forms with the same pointless information.
I’m IT Sys Admin working in porn industry. My job is to make sure all the adult websites are running and customers can play movies without problems. I have to keep an eye on all the payment systems for our online sextoys shop. Software upgrades, installation, backups - regular stuff.
I am a legal PA for a firm just off of Fleet Street. Hours are 9.30 til 5.30pm Monday to Friday. I work in the Real Estate & Commercial sector. Have been working in the legal industry since I was sixteen.
I work for a fairly large consultancy company, its a mix of IT/Finance, and generally is about building financial systems for other big companies…
It bores the hell out of me, same shite every day in a rubbish working environment, just need to work out what i want to be when i’m a grown up now! I’m toying with the idea of going and doing my PGCE and becoming a teacher, but everyone keeps telling me I’m mad… the police is also a good shout too… we shall see!
Well I do this,as this is me,not a Black Rat:sick:Same bikes, same gear but different ideas about things, work on the Diplomatic Protection side of things!!!
Head of IT for a pretty much defunct structured credit house, time between sorting out the IT infrastructure (not too difficult cos i built it ) and trying to save the company…
Probably joining Kevsta and unwashed masses in a few weeks
