What Bike? advice needed

A friend wants a bike to ride to the station each day

Nothing flash and has not ridden for a number of years

What would you suggest

He has been offered a VFR 800, 2005, 20,000 miles. Any thoughts / advice on the bike? He was asked to name a price……

Any opinions

If it’s oly to ride to a station and park up I would get a scooter. Much more economical and practical.

If your friend will also want to use it to hoon around for fun then consider something bigger.

I would suggest more details.

How far is the station?

Will it just be for that purpose or will he use it at other times?

How much does he have to spend?

Does he have a full license?

ditto!also from my experience a vfr is not a very economical bike for fuel or servicing;)

I’d get a well used 125/250 or similar, tried a scooter and didn’t like it, small wheels and nothing to grip with my legs. Especially if it’ll be chained up outside a station all day.

That being said, a VFR is an awesome bike n he might actually be tempted to use it for mor fun things like trips out. But if all he wants is to scream down to the station n back then a 125 will be ideal. Bimble in n out of traffic, scream past peds n then slow down in front of them and he can leave it chained up in the rain all day.

Someone asked if was just for getting to the station or for looning around on as well. That’s an important cosideration.

If it’s just the short hop, anything will do particularly if it’s going to be left out all day.

Have a friend living in a Kent village that has a dirt cheap but nice order CB250, god knows how many years old, that is his “station bike”.

Also has a couple of rather tasty decent bikes. The CB gets him to one of the Medway stations if it’s raining or up to Woolwich (free, covered secure parking) if the weather is nice.

Can’t remember what he paid, but the tax and insurance doubled the bill and as he put it, “it’s good enough, cheap and who’s going to steal a CB250?”
