So… Been having some trouble with the bandit (what a surprise)
Put some fuel in the other day (from a jerry can in my shed) used the bike and started experiencing some problems,
So i took the carbs off and gave em a good clean, put them back on and it worked fine.
Went to go out on it yesterday and it started arguing with me again! It wasn’t having none of it.
Today, took the carbs off AGAIN… cleaned them, put them back, drained the petrol tank and noticed I had water mixed in with fuel.
I’m pretty certain that this is the cause of my problems.
I took the tap off and gave it a good clean.
Then I filled the petrol tank up with about 3 litres of new fuel (in a new jerry can), half a litre at a time rinsing it round the tank to try and wash the water out.
I then left it to sit for a few hours.
I fitted an external tank to the bike and let it run for about 45mins without a single problem.
Rode it round the block twice and the problem is back!
I know an easy solution would be to put on a new tank, but I’m really loosing my love for this bike…
Yer fuel tap working okay ? Breathers breathing ? If all the waters out and it works fine with one tank and not the other then its gotta be tap or breathers .
I used the same trick in the tanks of ships due to the massive condensation issues in them . 25 liters of meths into each of the the 5000 liter tanks . It does not absorb the water it emulsifies with it and causes it to mix with the fuel so it just runs through the engine … basically it makes the water burnable … Very old trick … nothing new .
Well its one full bottle for a car … sooo I would say about a quarter would do a bike . Run that tank through and then give it another quarter with the next fill if in doubt .
Daws how did you clean the inside of your tank in the end?
My 'Blade tank has a bit of corrosion in it and I need to give it a clean inside… I’ve chucked a load of nuts and bolts in there, along with some petrol, and shaken it around loads etc…
