I returned to my car last night and drove off realising only one windscreen wiper was working.
Turns out somebody keyed the car down the whole of the right side probably using the wiper arm they snapped off the drivers side.
I’ve asked the dealer to order me a new one but I can’t get the broken piece off. It’s held in place by a 13mm nut which came off no problem but can I get the broken piece off after…hell no.
I’ve tried WD40, levering it with the lip of a wrench. The volvo forum says the arm is a taper fit onto the spindle, does anyone have any other ideas? :crying:
number one replace the nut by a few threads as this will stop you yanking it and flying off unexpectedly or worse scratching paintwork ( more) then fold the arm back so that it is not laying on windscreen ( normal position ) and gently play it until it releases… ot failing that you cab buy a a tool for doing the job
halfords may do one or any fairly decent motorfactors may do a sealey or draper or a laser branded one or even a small three legged puller may do it … they are roughly around ten to fifteen pounds
If you drive to the dealer where you’ve ordered the part they may fit it for free. Volvo are good for minor things like this if you have purchased the part from them and it’s not a big deal to fit it.
As for whoever did the damage I hope they get run over by a double decker bus that has been hit by a truck and fallen over on them.
good idea Joby … and regards the ball joint separator … it may be a bit large for the job i do warn you as ball joints tend to be three times the size of wiper arms lol but have a look at see … or even ask in halfords to see if they can remove the section for you
Hi,
Well I phoned Halfords and asked to speak to one of the technicians that does wiper blade changes…“No problem I’ll just put you on hold for a sec.” After ten minutes of shite music I thought fck it, and drove 10 minutes to get there.
I asked if they had a tool to remove wiper blade arms…nope. Described what I was looking for and eventually decided again fck it I’m wasting my time…and found the Ball Joint seperator on my own. I wasn’t sure it would work but it worked a charm and the broken bit came off with a small crack.
The cracking noise was probably because it was cold here in Surrey and secondly because it was so tightly wedged on, nothing else is amiss.
I thought I would post for those that follow in my steps.
Yep, took 5 secs to get off now what to do with the ball joint seperator? I have absolutely no need for it in my tool box…think it’s a cheek to take it back for a refund??
