*R&G kits are designed to take stresses away from the frame, through the use of compression sleeves inside the bobbins and de-embrittled bolts, which provide the first weak point. They are also attached to the strongest part of the frame.
Modern motorcycles are designed to be as lightweight as possible. The only downside to this is the fact that as a result there are very few places on a bike with enough strength to take a direct impact without breaking. Many companies make crash protectors that fit onto completely unsuitable places on a bike, such as 6mm fairing screws, laterally mounted bracketry (which could fold in on impact) or unsupported frame spars which could easily bend or break. In our experience the only place on most modern bikes capable of dissipating these kinds of forces is the point where the frame meets the engine: the keystone of the bike.
In some cases this may mean a small fairing modification, but the alternative is fitting a kit which makes unacceptable comprises and could actually focus impact forces onto wholly unsuitable components causing even more damage.

Question is, do they speak the truth? For the price of the R&G ones I’m tempted to wing it. What do people think, what are people’s experiences of stacking with the different kinds of bungs? I dropped my old Thundercat on its side at all of 5 mph and the cheap bungs (which were mounted to an engine bolt) easily saved me hundreds but they only cost me about £30. But obviously these are going on a VFR. Very confused!
I had some cheap ‘fairing mount’ ones on my bike (luckily never used them) but then I read that they can really fook up yer frame if you bin it as the fairing mounting points on the frames aren’t designed to handle that type of impact / stress.
Ended up getting some proper R&G ones as they actually fit using the engine mounting bolts (on a ZX6R anyway). Cost more but cheaper then a new frame!
But have you had to use them yet??? it’s def worth getting the R and G’s in my opinion, mind you, it depends what bike your on, I’m using skateboard wheels and threaded bar on my husqy!! And they’ve been used:D
Chiswick Honda fitted my R&G ones for about 160 quid (parts and labour) and that included drilling holes in the fairing panels. I’d get a quote from them before you buy some from ebay.
Do a bit more research on the bay , i seem to remember R&G being a bit cheeky and selling stuff on there as a slightly different name for less that the official site !
Didn’t have bungs at first on my VFR vtec and dropped it at 5mph on ice. Result being 1 new side fairing needed. Got R&G bungs fitted and had it knocked over a number of times with no damage to fairing. Had to get the fairings drilled and replacement expansion bottle fitted as others have had, but v much worth it. The fairing mounted ones won’t do anything other than knacker your fairing mounts, and are just a waste of money.
