This is a very hard decision for me…so let me explain in full…
Me and my partner were chatting this evening about my bike, she’s a K6 750 and i love her to absolute peices…anyway…let me get back to the story…
My girlfriend seems to think that as ive clocked up 30,000 miles on my bike in 2 years,i should soon be looking to get another bike, thus, chopping in the K6.
she explained that things will be going wrong soon and an MOT will be enforced next year, replacement parts ect…ect…its all going to cost alot of money.she is right in what she’s saying but i really cant imagine my life without my beloved boomerang.
we’ve been though so much together…stolen twice, and returned,6 offs…1 being really nasty, but she’s still bounced back each time…she has a few battle scars here and there…but she’s like my left arm and it would break my heart to see her go…
but i know that one day she will have to go,maybe another accident,or the engine goes pop…maybe even stolen again…who knows?..shall i pass her on so that someone else can have the pleasure of riding her,or be greedy and keep her, remembering all the memories we’ve shared good and bad…
its something ive tried so hard not to think about as she’s still a young pup,but i knew ide have to face it someday…i know its only metal…
i reckon you should keep the bike and just make sure you take care of it, give it a good service every time its needed and just be carefull with it. in return itll be good for you and less chance of bits breaking
Can you store it anywhere? You could SORN it and make sure you keep it in really good nick - then when you can’t resist any longer, tax it and take it out again. Wash, rinse, repeat.
I’d sell it - You’ll feel bad for a bit but soon gel with the new one - whatever it may be. I still get misty eyed at my old Africa Twins - may still get another one but, however I’m now more than happy with my varadero and would be sad to see this one go too now but realise things move on…
get a new one, it’ll be a nice cheap bike for someone to look after - and you get to experience the new memories that’ll come from the new one!! go for the new 750 looks better aswell!!
Yeah - I’m with the “keep it for the odd weekend away and buy something more reliable and cheaper to run for every day” option. If you can’t solve a problem throw money at it!
I know you are devoted to your Slinger as well mate, I know, it’s not an easy decission and often torn myself apart by selling a P&J:doze:
I’m gonna say keep it mate, work out how much it will cost you to change your K6 and divide that by 12.
Then set up a standing order to take that much out of you bank account every month into a separate account and keep that as a slush fund for any repairs you may incur over the next year or two.
If you get away with just servicing, you can then have a lump sum to take me out for a curry in a years time;)
I don’t think 30,000 miles is that much really. My Hornet’s 3 years old, has done over 26,000 and passed its first MOT last month without needing any work whatsoever, goes like a dream. If it’s a fairly new and modern bike then you shouldn’t have too many problems. The only problems i have had with bikes have been with a 1977 Honda 400/4 from e bay and an old 1988 Bros. A fairly new bike like yours should be absolutely fine and the mileage isn’t too high.
Just get it serviced and checked out, don’t neglect it and it should be fine mate - start worrying when you’ve done 100,000 miles on it LOL
In the end it’s your decision and your bike. You have to decide what you really want to do with it. If you sell it to please someone else, then you’ll just get resentful, but if you really feel you do want a new bike, then go for it. But it has to be what you want. (Now I sound like Aunty Miriam Stoppard from the Daily Mirror LOL:D)
