Vauxhall station

Hi guys, would like to park my scooter near Vauxhall station. Do you know if there is a motorcycle bay there? Do you know if in Lambeth borough I can park in between cars? Thanks!

Loads of bays around the area, I normally park mine by metropolis but make sure it is secured well as plenty of reports of bikes getting stolen from that bay

No, Outside of the dedicated bays, which are free, Lambeth charge bikes the same as cars for parking anywhere else.  And then say not to do it because if you cannot show a valid ticket you will be fined.

Parking controls now cover all of Lambeth north of the South Circular.  But that will be crossed as a zone is about to be introduced this summer for Streatham Hill, with the rest of Streatham about to be consulted about it too.

This is Lambeth’s list of parking bay locations, but it misses some areas out, including Vauxhall:

That said, all the main roads through Vauxhall are TfL red routes so come under their rules anyway, which are usually free but with time restrictions.

I took a demo bike for a test ride from Metropolis, I asked the salesman should I park it up in the motorcycle bay when returning it. He answered "oh no, ride it back into the shop please. It would be nicked in the time it would take you to walk in and get me. We see them circling all day looking for opportunities."

Came home to find a consultation letter about it from Lambeth council.

Apparently a Lambeth motorcycle parking permit will cost £47 a year. Good job I have off street parking.

Where are you supposed to put the permit?

I presume you’ll just sign up your bike using the registration number & wont need an actual physical permit?

Yes, Lambeth switched to e-permits for all residential parking last autumn.

Incidentally, the Streatham Hill parking zone will only be on the west of the A23, I guess those on the east side rejected it.  And it will only operate on weekdays from 10am till midday to target commuter parking.  So if you can guarantee never being home then you would not have to pay.  The daily guest permit costs are £5.25 per day though, so the permit very quickly become cheaper even for occasional illness, WFH etc.

I have not received a consultation for St Leonard’s yet, though I park off-street too, but presumably that two-hour window will be an option for the rest of Streatham too.  Also, the maps of the Streatham Hill proposal did not seem to include any motorcycle bays, so it will be interesting to see if that is the same elsewhere.

And whilst this has become a Streatham roads thread, be warned of remodelling works at the St Leonard’s junction taking place over the next couple of months.  Over than southbound access onto the A216 Mitcham Road being closed for a few days from the 26th, it will mainly just mean a load of congestion with lane closures.

I live out towards Guildford these days and have to pay the same for my motorbike permit as I do for my car.  Its also a physical permit and so I had to buy some old tax disk holder to put it in.

thisCPZ consultationis a joke, if anybody thinks it is anything other than a council run scam for getting more money they obviously havent read it, we really need to make sure people make their views very clear and reject this thieving proposal.

Which CPZ proposal?  The ones in Streatham are not being imposed by the council but a direct response to complaints from residents about not being able to park outside their homes due to commuters and shoppers parking in residential streets.
